Xbox 360 on Life Support in Japan
Posted by XanTium | September 6 22:52 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From xbox360.ign.com:
[QUOTE]
Japanese gamers continue to play favorites with the home team, handing over 75 percent of their gaming yen to Nintendo's DS and Wii last month. The remaining systems are left to fight over the scraps, and the Xbox 360 just barely managed to gain one percent (11,288 units) of the market share for August 2007, according to recent Japanese sales data from Famitsu.

Microsoft's closest competitor in the U.S., the PlayStation 3 seized 7.5 percent of hardware sales (81,541 units) during the month in Japan.

All they need to do is make a Blue Dragon, Trusty Bell, Lost Odyssey, Bomberman Bundle for the same price as the Wii and they'll be sweet.

MS should nuke Japan, wipe em off the map! Then it won't matter anymore:)

Seriously though.....everytime i hear about japan i get sad. It will never work over there...unless MS can some how make them believe the xbox is built on magic panda bear dreams and that cool pseudo punk kids with spikey hair with blue dyed tips.....who, look kinda cool at a rave and then all of a sudden start break dancing and popping better than everyone else(but only to DnB or jungle...weird i know) and your like "woah, I never expected that to happen" actually build and own xboxes! Or, include a pair of cool american levis with each xbox.

As you can see, i have a vast knowledge of Japanese history and culture.

all from experience too...It must be the low center of gravity or maybe all the bumps of crystal.

Um..... who cares? The japs have their own weird sense of quality gaming that doesn't always line up with the rest of the world. Americans should only care about this if they are a stockholder of MS, as they aren't going anywhere in the U.S. for a long time.

Thats true to an extent man...but don't forget there is still a large ammount of history/nostalgia involved with the japanese market. And both nintendo and sony call it home! It is an extremely big deal....still, it is impressive that xbox has had such success in the world "despite" the lack of support in Japan and to remember the wii is having greater success in the world "because" of its japanese design and philosophy.

It isn't going to get any better now that a giant "3" is on their billboards with no explanation of a title.

Japan is insignificant, even if they drop all support for it in Japan.

The rest of the world is key, not a small island with 127 million people.

Agreed - I wonder how many millions of $s Microsoft have spent on this crusade to win back gamers to the western market? For me it is and always will be a worthless cause - they could have spent the money in much better ways, like reducing the price of the console for the rest of the world.

The Japanese take great pride in their nationality and aren't that open to American products as much, in this case xbox 360, and let's not forget the two nuclear bombs that were drop on two cities Hiroshima and Nagasaki back then during WW2, many Japanese to this day still resent the Americans.

He must be wicked hard core then right? You should let him stay up til midnight and watch robot chicken and take him to R rated movies.....I know, it's ok because you are there too.

I didnt realize this was a "wii sucks" news story.

There are still MANY very important dev houses coming out of Japan and gaming is still more a part of the culture than in any western country.
