Okay, I have spent hours looking through the forums and stil don't have an answer so here goes. I am attempting to flash a ms28 with the latest iXetreme. I used iPrep to prepare firmware for use with VIA sata card. My MD5 code matches the one from tutorial. I follow procedures in all tutorials exactly (using NTFSDOS cd to boot). I get to MTKFLASH, it sees my drive. I power off, select drive and power back on, then it hangs up. It keeps showing screen statin" Reading......01%" I have tried several different timings: 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 10, 11, 13, 15 seconds and I keep getting the same error. Does anyone have any suggestions? Also in the tutorials that I read, it states that if you get the iPrep mesage that states" Directory already exists" not to worry. MTKFLASH should still load. It is aborting for me. SO after every failed flash attempt, I am having to boot back into windows to delete the file in iPrep/backup folder. All help will be greatly appreciated.

What commands are you using to dump your orig.bin??

I had trouble the other night trying to do an MS28 with my Via 8237 chipset and iprep.

I was using the Mtkflash r /m sata orig.bin command and it wasnt working for me.

So i used the idump 1234567 12345 method and it worked a treat.

You then use the iflash 1234567 12345 command to flash the hacked.bin.

Hope that helps.

I was using the iDUmp command. Thanks for the reply though.

Thanks. I decided to use Xetremeboot to make a bootable USB drive. Attempted using mtkflash r /m orig.bin command and didn't have any success that way either. It saw the drive initially but after I powerd off the console and selected the drive, instead of giving me a drive error, it stated that it read the drive and then gave me the list of selectable devices again. I will try iPrep with USB next. What could be common between these two issues? Or am I just having a bad run of luck?

Try this

- Boot PC, wait at DOS prompt, Plug SATA cable from PC into Xbox 360 DVD
- Boot Xbox 360, wait 5 seconds
- Run mtkflash r /m orig.bin
- Choose your SATA port, mtkflash then hangs
- Press Esc, you are returned to Dos Prompt
- Run mtkflash r /m orig.bin, as you press enter Power off 360
- Choose your SATA port and Press Enter, mtkflash hangs
- Wait 10 seconds
- Power on 360, it should start reading the flash

Attempted HackaJacs's reommmendation. No change. So I decided to try running iprep off of a bootable USB. That fixed the problem where I had to boot into windows after every attempt and delete the backup file, but now I have a different problem. Now every time that I go to select the drive after cutting off the xbox, the cursor just keeps blinking as if I didn't hit a button. It doesn't matter what I select, it just freezes up and doesn't even give me a drive error code. I am going to try and set up the thumb drive again. Any ideas other than that?

Quick question: Which sata card are you using?

I just received my SYBA SY-VIA-150 card from newegg today. I spent 1-2 hours trying to get it to work. I was having similar problems (i.e. hanging after it says Reading...00%). I managed to get it to work after I switched out the sata cable that came with the SYBA card.

That is good to know for future reference, however my issue seemed to be the command I was typing. I reinstalled iPrep to the thumb drive as before, after using iDump command I still had the problem as stated earlier. I decided to try mktflash w /r orig.bin and it worked the first try. I don't know why this would make a difference as they are both commands to call up the same program, right? Anyways, everything running smoothly now, thanks to everyone for the inout. Greatly appreciated.

I'm using an nforce3 motherboard (SATA1) and I've tried this bad-flash method to read the firmware but I'm having no luck... it keeps saying port: 9f0 master/slave:a0 and just freezes.

I followed the steps as you've outlined exactly. I've flashed ms25 drives before using this motherboard without any problems. What else could I be doing wrong?
