Microsoft's Complete Xbox 360/Live Stats - 11.6M Xbox 360s Sold
Posted by XanTium | September 20 10:30 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From next-gen.biz:
[QUOTE]
More than 11.6 million Xbox 360 consoles have sold across the 37 countries where it is currently available. Xbox LIVE is currently available in 25 countries across the globe.

Faster than expected, Xbox LIVE has eclipsed the 7 million member milestone and is on track to reach 10 million members by the end of June 2008. In fact, in the last year we've added a new Xbox LIVE member every 8 seconds.

Xbox 360 is the next-gen console with the largest games attach rate at an astounding 6.3 games sold per Xbox 360 owner.

Xbox LIVE members have spent more than 3.2 billion hours playing games on Xbox LIVE with their friends around the world. That is equal to 137 million days or more than 376,000 years of gaming.

Xbox LIVE Marketplace is now the leading provider of on-demand high-definition content in the U.S., providing more than twice the number of hours as leading cable operators.

Xbox LIVE is the largest social network in the living room with 2.6 million IM, text and voice messages sent over the service every day.

I don't care who you are or how big a sony/nintendo etc fanboy you are but those are pretty impressive figures. Especially the attach rate figures which are what the big publishers look at.

There may very well be 11 + mil Wii's out there but what's the attach rate like for it? 1 game per console??

BUT at he end of the day, if you want to make money from your games its a no brainer............. Publish on ........DS

:EDIT:
Wii attach rate in Feb 07 was 3.6
PS3 attach rate in Feb 07 was 3.4

I love stats...

the attach rate for the 360 is awesome

and what you're saying about the wii is absolutely correct.

it seems almost daily the next big Wii game flops and everyone scratches their head. the 1up pod cast from Lepzig said that the biggest crowds for the Wii were for Wii Sports... gamers and journalists alike would rather go to the convention and play the game they already own instead of any of the new upcoming offerings.

that's pretty sad really. I'm sure Mario Galaxy and Mario Kart will do well but on a whole the Wii with Wii Sports as a pack in is really what those 11 million people are interested in.

what is even more puzzling is that Nintendo continues to claim that they will not make a Wii Sports sequel and that it's really more of a demonstration of the Wii's potential than anything else... and here I thought they liked money laugh.gif

I think the real winners will be reveled this holiday... Halo 3 will work wonders, no doubt, but it's hard to say if it will keep the 360 in the lead past September and maybe October. the Wii is after all still selling out daily nearly 1 year after it's launch ph34r.gif

no doubt 360 game sales will dominate though.

once halo3 comes out it will be a 7.3 attach rate, but i'm sure this is obvious ;-)

What does exactly attach rate mean?
If they sold 24.3 M games and 11.6 M consoles, how can they tell "6.3 games sold per Xbox 360 owner"??? blink.gif

edit:
According to U.S. NPD data, gamers have bought more software for the Xbox 360 (24.3 million units), than software for PS3 and Wii combined (19.8 million units)

hmm... not 100% sure if that is something other than games, as in maybe marketplace downloads? But yeah, I would assume a 6.3 attach rate would mean 6.3 per console sold... which would be like 73m

your compairing the USA game sales of a few retialers against the world wide sales of all 360 consoles...

NPD said 24.3M games in the USA... also NPD doesn't track all sales they neglect Walmart, Bestbuy, smaller retail chains and all online sales. so the world wide software sales is probably closer to 75Million

11.6M is of course consoles world wide.

assuming there recent, those are bad sales figures.

last i checked, they had around 10 mil in january, so that means only 1.6 mil have been sold in....9 months?

hard to believe

Yeah me too. That doesn't sound too great yet since January a ton of people I know have bought consoles. I find it hard to believe that the increase in games in 2007 hasn't shifted more consoles.

Hello Fellow Gamer(s). I think you're also part of that equation. Their time is useful to them. What would you have them do? It's better than going out & killing Or fighting in real life.

twistedsymphony - you're on point about the sales. They really didn't take into account of all the wallmarts, Sam's Clubs, Targets, K-Marts, etc.. NPD sales aren't exactly perfect accounts of all items, but its a basic ballpark figure. Hhhmmm... I wonder is there a way to get an account of all of the sales from the other stores (including online)? If so can some-1 look into it, that would be way kool.

Just an idea, back when they said they had 10 mil consoles shipped, didnt this turn out to be consoles shipped to retail when in fact it was more like 8 mil consoles actually sold, this time they are stating consoles sold 1 mil.

A case of manipulating dales figures coming back to bite you in the ass. Like sony stating they have shipped 5 mil consoles now when all of the web analysts were reporting around 3.5 mil actually sold.
