Xbox Live Makes Debut in India
Posted by XanTium | September 22 23:38 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From ndtvprofit.com:
[QUOTE]
It's the war of the gaming titans and Microsoft is trying to revive the interest in its XBox with the launch of the XBox Live, where gamers will be able to pit themselves against each other online. A strategy that the company hopes will help it get a larger share of the $100 million gaming market in India.

"Very clearly when we launched XBox 360, one USP of XBox 360 was the live version. We were very committed that when we launched in India we would launch with the full host of services," said Mohit Anand, Country Manager - Entertainment and Devices Division, Microsoft India.

From what I understood,Micro$oft stayed outve India because Piracy was out of control there.
They must have ALOT more faith in their security these days.

Or they can make so much there that Piracy just lowers their profit margins to 4% instead of 2% like everwhere else!

Thank You,
Come Again.

I am willing to buy unmodified Xbox 360 in India and LIVE subscription so i could play online, but the problem of piracy is not necessarily people's fault here in India.I live in a city of 5 million people and there is no marketing strategy from Microsoft in my city ,i can only assume what happens in small cities. There were only four games in the store and they said they'll order a game for me which will fly from Mumbai.
If i could buy latest games, accessories, any LIVE subscription from people who know what they are doing then i'll go legit, thats my messege to MS.

I thought Microsoft had playing pirated games over Xbox Live pegged down already (banning)...

In fact, I figure no Xbox Live would give the incentive to pirate in the first place...

Go India, they are seriously doing some crazy things there (ala economic boom), at least they won't be censoring things like China.

it's just the pre-launch PR machinery at work. ms india (and mohit, ms india country manager) have been quite emphatic in stating that live will launch before the year end (hopefully sooner than later). but the reason for being a little non-commital is simple - they have made too many empty promises in the recent past and dont want to suffer another backlash from frustrated indian gamers once again.

also when xbl is formally launched, we'll see a pricing guide for sure.

best,

ps: a press workshop highlighting the many features of xbl was held a few days earlier (hours before the mumbai halo 3 party), and many media channels wrongly reported that ms had launched their live service in india.

Well that's all I need to hear, commence launch! What percentage of pirated movies do you think are made available in India? From all that I've read, I find that the rate is very high. It's gotta be a similar number for games due to the increase in price for them.

I guess that the first round of bannings has done its job for some of the casual scene watchers. Actually, people have been able to go on Live with the iXtreme firmwares.
