MS Admits Halo 3 Scratched Disc Problem - Free Replacements
Posted by XanTium | September 25 11:41 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From computerandvideogames.com:
[QUOTE]
Microsoft has admitted there's a problem with Halo 3's Limited Edition packaging scratching game discs, and is now offering replacements via the Xbox website.

The problem is blamed on the plastic and foam nub in the LE tin designed to hold the discs; it turns out plenty of gamers - including CVG - are opening their copies of Halo to find the discs loose and scratched.

Good lord, their normal price is $20 to exchange a scratched disc. We need consumer protection laws that would mandate they either remove the copy protection, or offer exchanges for all protected media at a rate of 50 cents, plus $1 packaging fee, plus current postal rates for 3oz package.

I kind of laughed yesterday when I saw this news, thinking "Wow, another sad panic story" but it was right. As soon as I opened my tin, the game disc fell out, with a thumb print-sized scratched area on the back...

Microsoft are certainly showing the world how quality control should NOT be done. Since the xbox 360 has been launched we have had the 3 red lights that microsoft have admitted is a design fault, The wireless headset not working with original wireless pads, the wireless steering wheel being recalled for a fix, dash updates temporarily disabling consoles that have not had previous updates, and now Microsofts console selling game (limited edition) comes in a case that can scratch the disc to bits!
Nice one Microsoft laugh.gif

Have they even stated if they're recalling the games in defective packaging? I doubt it, they'll leave them on sale most likely to keep the sales up until they get replacements issued to stores, then all the poor people who are oblivious to this will open the packaging to have their smiles turn to tears! So very sad Microsoft, get a grip, these things are supposed to be subjected to quality control, how difficult must it be to put blank discs into some of these packages then throw them around a bit to see if they do the job they're supposed to do?

I got the Collector's Edition (and the Legendary, lol)

I will admit that both discs that come with the Collector's Edition were somewhat scratched up.

The game didn't skip or anything. But I only played campaign and a little matchmaking.

I was at a midnight release last night and was about to drive home when i decided to check the disc. I opened it and sure enough, the disc was scratched.
I took it back into the GameStop and they traded it out no questions for me (what they SHOULD have done).
So i'm just happy that i had the opportunity to swap mine out.

Look on the bright side. If the game comes pre-scratched there's no need to damage it by putting it in the your xbox 360.
