Guy Quits Job to be an Xbox Pro
Posted by XanTium | October 4 13:04 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From belfasttelegraph.co.uk:
[QUOTE]
An Ulster Xbox fan who quit his job and sold his belongings to play in a major TV tournament has won a $30,000 contract and become one of the UK's first full-time professional gamers.

Jason Holmes, from Seaforde, Co Down, took the dramatic step in order to "make his dream come true" and travel to the Championship Gaming Series in Birmingham.
After a nerve-wracking final in London, Jason - who is known by the alias Neo Jake - was selected as one of the top 20 gamers and asked to join the Birmingham Salvo team.
He has now won a $30,000 contract to play professionally around the world.

In November, Jason will travel to Los Angeles to compete at the World Final.
"I am going there to win. I am really looking forward to competing against other world-class gamers," he said.

$30k is kind of weak. Maybe he gets more in bonus money. If you made $30k in America playing video games, I doubt you'd be considered a success.

Well isn't he the lucky bastard...

I hope that measly $30,000 justified selling all his shit. Thats kinda drastic.

good for him - i hope that he does well.

but for me there are much easier ways to make much much more money...and only a select few professional gamers do that well financially. and if anyone has heard about how fatality trains and prepares daily to improve his skills, it is a crazy schedule and quite intense. i would prefer to just enjoy games and not make them the support of my well-being...

$30,000 a year!!! Wow I bet he is bedin' down the ladies. Heck, that's almost enough for a place to live, food, and a good time at Wal-Mart.

Lol maybe they meant pounds and I think 1 pound is 2 Canadian dollars so that would be 60K over here and you could live off of that quite nicely especially that he's single. Thumbs up man but that was drastic but when a man has a dream nothing can stop him.

I surely hope that you're right because otherwise I don't think that's a dream that is worthed living... I mean with 30k USD a year when his "career" will meet its end he'll be forced to go work at a Dunkin' or KFC at 60 just to pay the rent... sad.gif

Its 30k for about 3 months of competition. If his team makes the world championships, then that pay goes up to $100k for each player. At least thats how it works in the US division of The CGS.
