First working SATA-PC drive on Xbox360 - Update
Posted by Iriez | October 7 17:15 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From TMF on xboxhacker.net
The Philips DROM6316 drive is still using x360 retail benq firmware and dvd key. A small modification enables to run backups.
(please don't ask for the firmware, it's not my project and still not finished!!) Eject function is now almost fixed. Open/close tray options also works through dashboard.

proof video on youtube:

(thanks to Schtrom, Redline99, Uberfry, Tiros, TheXone and some other guys)

X-S note: This is not new information, but a progress update. It will hopefully be possible in the future to run a ixtreme variant on this drive.

If the drive is quieter (which it probably is), I would definitely be interested in this.

Not only that but I guess you will have to do some soldering to get the power cable hooked up??

Also what is really stupid is you cant even buy this drive, it comes with Dells.

it aint stupid , its "proof of concept" , give it a few days and it will probably be found that other drives work too , i found a guy on ebay uk selling them for 10.99 plus shipping he says they are MODEL - DROM6316/34
not sure if the 34 model is the same drive tho , cant post the link as its against rules but do a search for philips sata dvd rom biggrin.gif

Only thing stupid is the fact that you didn't look elsewhere and assumed they only come with Dell's. It took all of 30 seconds to find them for sale at Amazon and Fry's.

Good to know theres some progress - OF ANY KIND - in regards to mods/hacks for the 360.

This is another step in the right direction, maybe. smile.gif

Maybe I've missed something, but what is the point?

It's not quieter, it won't fit in the shell, and it doesn't do anything different than the OEM drives.

Somebody please enlighten me.........

..........and by the way, I watched the video and checked their web but no one answers WHY????
