Market to Shift from Wii to Xbox 360 this Holiday?
Posted by XanTium | October 17 00:30 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From biz.gamedaily.com:
[QUOTE]
While Nintendo and the Wii have been credited with expanding the gamer audience over the last year and bringing in more casual players, it's actually Microsoft's Xbox 360 that may prevail during this crucial holiday season, according to Janco Partners analyst Mike Hickey.

As part of an investor note for Electronic Arts, Hickey commented that this holiday may see more of a hardcore focus. "We believe the recent release of killer content (Halo 3 - BioShock), lower hardware price points, and limited Wii (hardware/software) supply could shift market focus from Wii casual to 360 hardcore this holiday," he said.

well i would figure nintendo is witholding stock to build up demand before they flood the market so when the holiday season comes the hyped up demand will lead to more sales

frankly, too many people are judging the leader of the 'next gen' race by hardware sales...

although the Wii has more consoles sold the games, online capability and even the appeal to the 'hardcore' gamer is pretty damn low... once you buy a wii the WiiSports is pretty much all you need, i consider the wii as a party favor rather than a serious console

the 360 has an install base close to that of the wii (even though its been out longer). the true power behind the 360 is that the games and online capability makes it more attractive than its closest competitor (the ps3) and the attachment rate for the 360 is much higher than the wii and ps3 - since M$ makes its money from games it bodes well for them [doesn't the 360 have more software sales than ps3+Wii]

plus the whole Casual Gamers buying consoles don't drive the development for next gen... the wii just has a unique control scheme, thats pretty much it

Nintendo Wii is going to be sold out all Christmas. Once Mario Galaxy hits, the system will be impossible to find. Xbox 360 will sell the most software, and Sony will sell the most Blu-Ray players.

This will make two Christmas's in a row that the Wii will be hard to locate. There is little about the Wii that would makes it difficult to manufacture and I honestly think Nintendo is artificially limiting the supply to hype up the demand. Doing that for too long, especially around Xmas, is only going to hurt Nintendo as people just give up and buy something else..

You would think that wouldn't be the case, but it is. Amazingly, the Wii sells outta stock within the first 48 hours of being shelved down here. (thats just an educated guess on my part)

Walmart - Rarely has them in stock when I look, as well as the controllers.
BestBuy - Yea right, thats the first place to get hit up.
GameStop - If your lucky, and its not the weekend.
PawnShops - Sure if you wanna buy a used piece of crap for the same price as a new one.

The Wii sells, and it sells fast. Thats no joke.

interesting... i guess we'll just have to wait and see M$ does seem to be playing it's cards right. only thing concerning me is the recent developer shifts and such... i'm sure it's all for the best tho, all those developers gotta see that the xbox360 is doing great, all things considered....

wii60 ftw tho :-D

Huh, people honestly believe the same company that completely got blindsided by the Wii? I think they are just trying to justify why they haven't actually done anything meaningful for the Wii still, and allowing Nintendo, and the few other developers to cash in on it's success. I'm kinda shocked investors aren't pissed about that.

mario galaxy? are you retarded?!?!?!!

BRAWL will end any possible competition with 360 and ps3

then again, even sega saturn would beat ps3's competition.

HFG (Hello Fellow Gamers). From what I can gather, Brawl was pushed back until 08'. That is way after this holiday season. Which means Again that M$ & X360 will Dominate this holiday season with the BEST software line-up.

I'm sorry but someone who thinks they can predict what the entire population of America will spend their money on this holiday season is a fool. How can anyone say they think that the Wii won't be well stocked and use that as the reason to say the 360 would prevail.

EDIT: removed some of my stupidity tongue.gif
