good to see a real arcade stick finally native to xbox 360 on retail market.

buuuut.. this is seriously overpriced. $149 for a non-upgraded single player stick? can get better parts and do it yourself, or pull it off for much cheaper with same quality parts. using existing gutted controller board makes it easy

but i agree custom art is always nice.

How can anyone with any knowledge of arcades create an arcade stick with only six buttons?

Even a passing glance at the toy ones (like the Gamester for the Xbox) will show you that an arcade stick needs eight: 3x2 for the StreetFighter series, and 4x1 for the Neo Geo platform. Even the X-Arcade can do 4x1.

It's annoying to see so much polish on something where the original research was so lacking.

these are xbox of course and the sfpad is the EASIEST to hack n' solder ever. the new one i'm working on for

360 will probably be another punchpad.

fyi: the punch pad feels very nice n sfIII. even those canceling moves are just as easy to pull off with this as they are with the joystick.

damn the lighting in my room sucks. the punchpad looks sic but the light makes the silver and black not look right.

i think it cost me something like $50 (if that) to order the buttons and stick. i still have more than 1/2 a sheet of a $20 mdf sheet i bought over a year ago. not expensive to make at all.

if you guys really want a good stick, i'd head over to the srk forums and get some info on how to build or commission one off the many artists over there that build badass stick after badass stick.

call me silly but how do you control with the punch pad? Is that set of 4 buttons just like, a d-pad or something?

I modded my HotRod SE (got it for $119, 2 player) for use with a PS2 controller, so I could use a PS2>PC, PS2>Xbox, PS2>Gamecube adapter...now I just need someone to make a PS2>XBox 360 controller. $300 is just too much, it looks nice, but the cost of parts is barely a fraction of that price.

Is it just me or are the button arranged the wrong way? The Y & LB buttons are on the bottom instead of top. I guess the triggers are not needed in this case.

The problem with these third-party controllers is that Arcade games are never made to use them. I'd love to see a controller with a wheel for Tempest, but I doubt it would even work.

Xarcade is another company that makes great arcade controls, but at a much more reasonable price then these are. Although these are nice, they are way over priced...

the thing about xarcade is that they use knock off parts, have terrible build quality for the price you're paying, and lag significantly. That's not to say the arcadeinabox isn't overpriced though. . .

If you're really going to have issues with price then the only logical thing to do is custom build. I just spec'd out some parts today, with about $25 for a good sanwa stick, 6 to 12 buttons at about $2 a pop and a minimal amount for building supplies brings me to an estimate of about $60 then probably only about 3 to 10 hours build time depending on however you decide to build it. . . makes a hell of a lot more sense than paying $150+ for a stick that may or may not have quality parts.
