From next-gen.biz:
[QUOTE]
Microsoft has reported a quarterly profit in the Xbox's Entertainment and Devices Division, as the segment aims for its first full year of profitability.
Microsoft posted unaudited operating income for its first quarter ended September 30 of $165 million in the Entertainment and Devices Division, compared to a loss last year of $142 million.

Overall, Microsoft revenues were up 27 percent year-on-year to $13.8 billion, beating the guidance of $12.4-$12.6 billion. Operating income was $5.9 billion, similarly exceeding the guidance of $5.0-$5.2 billion.

During the quarter, Microsoft said it sold 1.8 million Xbox 360 consoles, with record attach rates during the quarter in the US.

Even if halo had nothing to do with that tongue.gif , it's god news that for first time the entertainment division is earning some money.

But if we take into account all the past years, losing lot's of money, i don't know if it's worth it.

I hope this will last and another price cut woul be nice, sub 200$ xbox 360 sound very nice.

byteway, how much does cost microsoft to manufacture the console? (only the console)

Thanks!

i doubt it still costs them 200 since they have been making the console for a while now and costs have gone down dramatically....though with the new revisions of boards it still might be up there

I'm pretty sure they also had a brief quarter of profit back when Halo 2 was originally released.

I think this also explains away some of the jettisoning of 'extra' development studios. Too risky to be running that many internal studios which eat into revenue, especially if they start to put out lackluster titles (thinking of you, Rare!).

I'm sure this does not include the amount of money they spent in replacing 360's. The ROD is still most likely killing any profits they claim to have made. I've gone through 2 360s with the ROD, but this news is probably helping their stocks from dropping. Burn Microsoft Burn.. Bring me Google OS.
