Play on XBOX Live thru your Windows Mobile cell phone

BL with your cell phone?! You bet! If you are in an area where broadband is unavailable, and your only means of an internet connection is dial-up, then you have an alternative. Your cell phone. For XBL, and much more. Read on about how we had 10 XBOX 360's connected to XBOX Live via my cell phone.

Too stubborn to live with what many of my neighbors live with, have been living with for quite some time, and will probably continue to live with. My next option? Wireless. But where to start? There are not that many carriers, and the devices are somewhat cumbersome as far as what they'll accomplish. But, I knew that there were OTA transmissions on a cell phone network that reached speeds far in excess of 26k. It wasn't as good as Cable or DSL, but it was a start. My research led me to the Samsung i607 Blackjack on AT&Ts EDGE (and soon 3G, but we'll get into that later) network.

If you notice, they were connected to XBL yes, but for the actual games they were all connected through a LAN. It's just not possible yet to play online games via a cellphone connection (even with UMTS or EVDO). They don't have the upload speed, and they have higher latency.

So? I played my friend in a game of Madden, and he was connected via dialup. Wasn't all that bad either.

Oh jesus. Take this off of x-s's homepage. This is a terrible thing to suggest to avg users. Please, don't read this and think you can use it on any cell plan. Your fees may skyrocket and everyone you play with/against will hate you for lagging like an ass.

I have used that method in the past before when my cable speed was too tied up by 'neighbors'! grr.gif

This is a great method for those in rural areas, a nice step by step tutorial would be nice but its not too difficult at all to set this up on your own. It would be SWEET to see someone figure out how to plug in your phone via USB to your 360 directly and use the ICS that way. It should work, might try it tonight...

BTW, I am writing this post using my 3G blackjack connection tethered through my laptop via USB

Oh god! This got me really excited when I read the headline. I thought they finally were bringing live to Windows Mobile sad.gif

That said, I use my phone as my connection whenever I'm on the go. It works just fine for my games.

this is of course not good for gamming,, but just to check & send mesages maybe a bit of voice chat ok, but cells dont have the speed for gamming.. nor does dial up.
someone on a cbale connection with a laggy connection is still alot higher than dial up.

cell is too stupid to use for gamming.not enough speed

You beat me to it! It's not bad if your playing something thats simplistic, but human nature is that people with no internet access but mobile wil atleast TRY and play every game under the sun, thus lagging everyone or causing who knows what kind of network difficulties.. anyways, not bad, just not something i'd want on the x-s homepage either.. luckily, this would be a very small bunch of people using this as compared to home high-speed... peace.

i have been gaming on xbl for a few weeks using 3g and hsdpa

i got a little modem that takes sim cards and it works quite well for gaming
vegas was slightly laggy but halo is (most of the time) completely lag free

this is the modem
http://www.three.co.uk/personal/products_s...band_/index.omp

i had to get it as bt managed to mess up putting in a new phone line twice so this was the next best thing

i forgot to mention it connects at 3.6mb

Data plans must be cheaper in the states. Here in Canada, we pay 5 cents per KB.
Actually, I sure hope its cheaper down there or this guy is going to regret his genius idea. Goodbye kneecaps!
