ESPN and MS Offer Sporting Events and Programming On Demand for 360
Posted by XanTium | November 5 14:14 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From the press release:
[QUOTE]
ESPN and Microsoft Corp. today announced an agreement that will add high- and standard-definition full-length games, television shows and video game programming to Xbox LIVE, the online games and entertainment network on Xbox 360. Effective immediately, fans of all ages can access a growing catalog of marquee sporting events and timely programming, including full-length NCAA college football and basketball games, Summer X Games 13, "World Series of Poker," "The Contender," "Madden Nation" and much more on Xbox LIVE Marketplace, the leading high-definition video download service.
"Establishing this relationship with Microsoft on Xbox 360 provides an innovative way to reach our target demographic through this dynamic next-generation entertainment console," said Matt Murphy, senior vice president, Digital Video Distribution, Disney and ESPN Media Networks. "This agreement embodies our mission to deliver the best sports content to fans, and does it through an exciting and robust platform that reaches millions of people."

Through this agreement, Xbox LIVE users can download a variety of popular events and shows available on Xbox LIVE Marketplace each week, highlighted by the best matchups from the world of college football and basketball.

For video gamers, ESPN content on Xbox LIVE will include the 2006 and 2007 seasons of "Madden Nation," an ESPN reality series taking fans inside the world of Madden NFL football competitive gaming. Additional programming will include the 2007 "World Series of Poker," the 2007 season of "The Contender," the full-length high-definition surfing documentary "Down the Barrel" and some of the best college football bowl games.

"This is a natural fit for us, as so many Xbox 360 owners are huge sports fans," said Ross Honey, senior director of the media and entertainment group at Microsoft. "We are dedicated to providing our diverse community of Xbox LIVE users the premium entertainment content they want, and partnering with ESPN is a great example of our continued dedication in the video-on-demand space, especially in high definition."
Currently offering more than 3,200 hours of premium entertainment content from more than 30 studios and networks, Xbox LIVE Marketplace is the only online service offering downloadable movies and TV shows in high definition. More information about the great ESPN content being offered on the service is available at http://www.xbox.com/en-US/live/marketplace/moviestv/?WT.svl=nav.

How much is it? If it is free with ads that would be sweet.

MS really wants to dominate ppl's living rooms, problem is what they offer isnt exactly revolutionary or worth it.

Just because they found a "new way" to give ppl a service doesn't automatically mean its a better way...

hamwbone, I couldn't agree with you more. The incessant whining of naive individuals constantly expecting free handouts for products and services that actually cost alot to deliver is just getting stupid.

The next time some of you people think a service, product, or offering should be free then I challenge you to go into your own place of employment and tell your employer that you want to start working for free. If you can't do that then your just being a complete hypocrite for expecting others to work for free.

seriously, how can that be so when there is no other digital downloading service like what MS offers - and the only online service offering HD content...although Vudu is offering HD content soon, but no ESPN nor TV shows...

"Currently offering more than 3,200 hours of premium entertainment content from more than 30 studios and networks, Xbox LIVE Marketplace is the only online service offering downloadable movies and TV shows in high definition."

XBOX Live is and continues to be the only service of its kind with no competitors (since no one is offering anything close to the same entertainment experience at this time) and is easily worth the $4 per month for an outstanding service.

Big brother just charging more and more. I guess everyone here is made of money. This boy sure isnt. I dont have mom and dad paying everything for me. Some of us actually work for a living. M$ is just milking us to death. I know this site is against piracy. But with M$ overpricing there content and everything else they sell. It really makes you wonder why so many people pirate.

OMG this could be sweet. depending on the pricing...

Incorporating some type of flat model would make it really nice.

you are obviosly not getting the point! i do work for a living, night shift on top of that. the issue here is you apparently dont understand that they are offering products and services. just because you cant afford what they offer doesnt justify piracy. and the content is NOT over priced. they make the market, and obviously people are buying from the market. if no one bought it they would lower price. YOU just cant afford it! gaming is an expensive HOBBY, not a right. maybe you need to switch to sodoku puzzles which are easy and cheap to create and sell. they are also cheap and easy to purchase....

Bring on the HD video! biggrin.gif

yeah what you said?

I would love to be able to download college basketball games, I am always working when they are on, I dont have a tivo, so I would pay to DL my team in HD and watch it later. If its not to expensive, but most things are.

With IPTV well on it's way now here in the UK, ISP's had better start increasing users download allocations & upgrade servers to take the weight of extra internet traffic or it will never take off.

UK ISP's impose such small download allocations here its a joke grr.gif grr.gif
