Microsoft: Xbox 360 Sales, Though Low, Dwarfing PS3 Sales in Korea?
Posted by XanTium | November 9 19:19 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From gamasutra.com:
[QUOTE]
When pressed about the Xbox 360's total units sold in South Korea, Dae Hwan Lim, marketing coordinator for Microsoft Korea's entertainment & device division (which includes the Xbox 360), conceded that "I can't say myself, but some reports here said about 100,000."
"It should be possible to pass Japan with the number of hardware sold," he added, but wasn't keen to elaborate, saying "I can't predict when."

Squeezed for further details, the marketer remarked that the "Xbox 360 is doing much, much better (than the PS3). There's a huge gap in market sales. I can't mention other company's numbers directly, but it's multiples larger."

That's pretty shocking, IF it's true that MS is selling "multiple times" more 360's than PS3's in any country out East.

The fact that the 360 has outsold the PS3 in the last week in Japan (which just became news) is also shocking.

IMO the PS3 is overpriced, has a weak online presence, and games that are multiplatform with the 360 aren't as great on the PS3, not to mention the PS3 has no great exclusives out, but I never figured Japan would believe this too and buy more 360's.

If Sony couldn't pull their act together 1 year after launching (which is right now, which means they haven't gotten their act together), then I don't think they will this generation. It's quite clear that Sony's best hope right now is to beat MS to the market for this next generation in a few years and not be overpriced. Then, maybe then, they will re-gain their dominance of the video game market.

I still admire that Sony can sell PS2's at at very high rate, but other than that I can't be impressed by anything they do.

But, w/e...

Don't forget that Korea and Japan don't really like each other. Maybe subconsciously they prefer the console NOT from Japan? That plus cost, etc... smile.gif

WCG and korea?!?!?!? wtf are you talking about. the only game koreans do good at for WCG is starcraft, and occasionally wc3... but thats normally japan. it is true korea has a ridiculous gaming scene entirely revolved around starcraft, but its not true at all that they always do well at WCG or any other global tournament. they generally like to stay in korea and just play the other starcraft gods there.

kudos to nintendo for their marketing approach in Asia. The Wii has a geat price and is geared towarss families. Xbox 360 went head to head with the PS3 game stylel More and more you read developers saying Xbox and PS3 are pretty much the same. In that case, I'll take the lesser expensive console....

You've obviously never been to South Korea. Despite your narrow-minded perception, the success of a console has never hinged on the ability of the games to be pirated or not.

Is this really news? I mean come on, regardless of how they try to spin it the numbers are terrible, 100k units is close to 1 unit per 600 people. If microsoft truly wants to succeed in the market beyond expectations they need to concentrate more on marketing and less on competition with the PS3 and spinning it to make it look like they're selling an amazing number of units just because the radios are higher in their favor.

exactly, i completely agree with u tongue.gif

*Achievement unlocked* 1000G Beaten Sony by MS on its hometurf for one week biggrin.gif

the more and more i hear bout the ps3, the less and less i am inclined of ever getting one. MGS4 maybe worthy of a purchase, but if theres a chance tht it will be released on 360, i'd just wait and not waste £300+. also im sick of people goin on how its not been out for long, yes it has, its been a year and in tht time the 360 released great exclusives like GOW.

IMO PS3 is goin down the same route as the Xbox 1, but worse. The Xbox 1 had a load of good exclusives (not just Halo) and had a great online service. PS3 lacks in both areas. I never hear anythin bout amazing new exclusive PS3 games apart frm MGS4...

PS3 is only good for one thing, its media capabilities...but last time i checked it was meant to be a games console...jus without the games dry.gif
