From gamesindustry.biz:
Microsoft's Robbie Bach has dismissed Sony's PlayStation Network, saying he doesn't believe the console rival offers an online gaming service comparable to Xbox Live.
The company is currently celebrating five years of Xbox Live, with over 8 million users signed up to the service. "It's fair to say that Xbox Live is clearly head and shoulders above anything anyone else has tried to do. We don't have competition," said Bach, speaking to the LA Times. "Sony has done some things online, but nothing that can be called a service. We have a big advantage and we're going to keep pressing that advantage," he added.
QUOTE(Chancer @ Nov 19 2007, 09:56 PM) The service from Sony which is free is not bad for a free service. I play multiplayer online with no lag issues. I have downloaded titles from the store and demos. The best bit is. because it is a free service, they don't charge your credit card 3 times on the same day, for the following years service, then argue about it when you ring up to get it sorted. network cable has never been in since I cancelled. Shame really because XBL is the dogs bollocks.
Ouch! I feel for you (really, I do). MS's Xbox customer service is probably the bane of their existance (however, their *non-xbox* support line has been helpful in the past). As for the PSN/Home, I've got a friend with a PS3 and he raves about it. He's only been on XBL for the free month, so I believe there's a bit of a "different strokes" factor, but he loves how Sony's is set up (and moreso that it's free). QUOTE(794 @ Nov 20 2007, 12:45 AM) actually, i wouldn't call it a service because you are really getting served very very little of anything from Sony's online "presence"
XBL continues to push the boundaries of what can be done over what was originally a "gaming" service and now provides widespread media entertainment content (even in HD) that can be found no where else...and all for less than the cost of one game for a year of pleasure...amazing...
MS has continued to develop their XBL service in the absence of any true competition and will continue to do so...
Demos and games? Sony's got 'em. Online multiplayer? Sony's got it. Movies? Not sure, but Sony own's half the movie studios anyway. Don't get me wrong, I play on XBL almost every night (at least 1 gears match), but don't go on a fanboyish standpoint by gloating about the less than perfect aspects of XBL. A silver membership is free. That gives you access to movies and game content to buy, free demos (BTW, I've never heard of a demo that costs money), and a messaging service that's similar to MSN and AIM. Upgrading from "silver" to "gold" will let you play all the games with a "multiplayer" option online with other XBL members. There are no dedicated servers (except if a company decides to have them for one of their games; a rarity when it comes to XBL), so you must have a good connection to all players for the ideal experience (wheras with a dedicated server hosting, you just need a good connection to the server). Also, let's remember when you "upgrade" to "gold", you still get the same advertisements shoved down your throat, all DLC prices are the same, you don't get any bonus "points" or anything, and let's not forget that the content will only work like it's supposed to on the box you downloaded it with, so taking it with you to a friend's house or anywhere else isn't always an easy task.

Hello Fellow Gamer(s). Sorry you fell that way about Xbox Live. I've not had Bad issues with Xblive myself. You Mentioned some of the features that are similar to Xblive, but you also left out things that the PSN just doesn't have. Like Voice chat. No matter what game you're in or what you're doing, if you're on live you can always communicate via chat, pictures, video, & voice. not so on PSN. Just look @ the features that you can do with HALO3. Save actual game play footage & send it to anyone on live. What PSN network or game allows that? We should all know by now that Advertisement is everywhere. It's a business just like the video game industry. It's at the movie theaters, internet, Dvds, Payperview events, SuperBowl, it's the world over so deal with it. There are over 8 Million Xblive users the world over. I would love to see Sony's PSN actually handle that many people. By then there would be about 20 Million Xbox Live Users . In fact, There are more Xbox Live users Than there are PS3s sold world wide... Damn... . Time to play catchup SONY.

ouch! wow, you got pretty judgmental quite fast, huh...guess i must have struck a nerve... oh, and not to destroy your view of the world, but nothing is perfect...and that is why my last line was that MS is continuing to develop (and improve) their service.... also, i agree with BasicAir - i basically am only still a gamer because of XBL - i, too, am married, out of my twenties, and have a full-time job - thus XBL allows me to stay connected with my friends from college and medical school and that is definitely worthwhile since most of us are spread across the USA...
