Attachment Rates for Console Titles
Posted by XanTium | November 28 23:43 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From vgchartz.com:
[QUOTE]
The following are some North American top 10 lists of units sold relative to the install base for the particular console system(s) the titles were released for. In other words, the percentage states the percent of owners of a particular console that bought the game.

Xbox 360 (8,805,238 systems sold)
1. Halo 3 (47.4%)
2. Gears of War (34.4%)
3. Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (15.9%)
4. Guitar Hero II (15.4%)
5. Forza Motorsport 2 (15.0%)
6. Madden NFL 08 (14.7%)
7. Marvel Ultimate Alliance (13.8%)
8. Rainbow Six: Vegas (13.8%)
9. Call of Duty 3 (13.4%)
10. Fight Night Round 3 (12.7%)

Aside from Halo 3 and Gears of War, although the attachment rate of the other top selling games are only within the 12 - 16 % range, when considering the number of 360 owners, there are quite a few games selling a lot of units. With the way Guitar Hero III, Assassin's Creed, and Call of Duty 4 have been selling, it is likely that they will soon land a spot on this list.

that ps3 list pretty much proves that the only million seller for that console is resistance fall of man; and that is not even a million in north america, but it is good to see a game finally get close. motorstorm as a pack in should not even be counted and there is no chance of madden selling more than 500k abroad so that wont make it to a million.

all considered, cod4 at almost 400k units is pretty good though and i suppose it is possible ea will sell another 600k units abroad, or eventually.

looking at the other lists, those consoles clearly do not have the same problems selling games. you would think that the hacked consoles would sell less games. hmmm!

If I worked from MS, I would have expected Halo 3 to be around 75%. In this regard, it looks like it was a little bit a sales let down. Does anyone know the rate for Halo 2 corresponding to the Xbox?

i dont think anyone can consider halo3 sales anything but amazing...that article puts sales figures at 4,173,682 copies that is insane..As of may2006 8 million copies of halo2 have been sold (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halo_(video_game_series)#Halo_2)...so in two years halo sold 8 million copies. And in 2 months halo3 has sold 1/2 that amount i think halo3 will pass halo2 in sales.

**Edit
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halo_3

says some estimates are as high as 5.2 million copies being sold in the first 2 weeks...so sales figures may be even higher for halo3 then this article states

Resistance is bundled with most PS3's in Europe so that should help its figures smile.gif

on consoles piracy is really not that big a threat. Then again, those consoles don't have blu ray so its most likely that the audience are gamers first. I could be wrong on that one but thats my theory

Wait.... it says about 360 has sold 8,805,238 systems, and the wii has sold 6,695,293, which I KNOW is inaccurate. The wii has outsold the 360.. blink.gif

Your evidence to back that up? Did it say they tracked online downloaded games. Do you have a link to verify this? or is this another case of you guessing. seems to be a lot of people playing this online

Think of the figures if you take out the Pirated games. Of course piracy is a threat. Nobody has any way of knowing how many pirates would have been forced to buy certain games if their was no other way.

You must be really negative and cynical to think those figures are even a little let down. Thankfully you don't work at Microsoft.

4.1 Million copies of Halo 3, in 3 months, is anything but a let down, it's record setting. Usually, in the video game industry, business is considered great if they sell 1 million copies in a year.
