Activision and Vivendi Games are to merge, becoming the world's largest independent videogame publisher, in a deal valued at USD 18.9 billion

The new company, Activision Blizzard, now boasts a portfolio bursting with some of the top-selling videogame franchises including Blizzard's World of Warcraft, Starcraft and Diablo, Vivendi's Crash Bandicoot and Spyro and Activision's Guitar Hero, Call of Duty and the Tony Hawk series.

Kotick will remain as chief executive of Activision Blizzard, while Vivendi Games boss Bruce Hack will become vice chairman and chief corporate officer. He will also lead the merger, expected to be compete in the first half of 2008.

Activision also said that it will now have access to Universal Music Group, the world's largest music company, "which will benefit Guitar Hero and further extend our sizeable leadership position in music-based games."

Great, twice the suck and still no plans for a steady stream of decent games.

Wow...One ring to rule them all! Now if they could only buy EA! There is no way the securities exchange committe would allow that to happen though!
I never really like such super power games studios. I agree with all the reasons bungie wanted to be independant...Every one of those games vivendi and activation make dont interest me anyway. Well, WOW used to be alot of fun.

I know most of the development of Call of Duty 4 was done by Infinity Ward, but Activision still had some part in it.

I see this producing either new idea games, or just a bunch of BS.

I read this article title as "World's Worst Publisher." Perhaps I wasn't too far off.

Someone should tells these people that bigger does not mean better, especially when it comes to video games. This will not be good for the industry. sad.gif

I am in full agreement with you. I don't even consider Generals a Command and Conquer game. And cnC 3 hasn't lived up to the hype...

All this merger says to me is WoW with music (or, crappy game with RIAA all over it). As long as it keeps the WoW players from reproducing, than I am all for it.

lol, i dont think you have to worry about wow players reproducing anyway, they have to leave the computer first, and to all wow players who will read this take it with good humor!
