First of all my 360 suffers from a weird issue in that the Eject and Power buttons on the face do not work...no big deal I just use the remote control, but this will play into what I want to do.

Is it possible to add a second IR sensor to the 360? Mine sits behind the wall and all and the cables run through the wall hooking up to my TV that is mounted on the wall. I have no line of site for the Xbox. Anyway I bought the game SceneIt and all the controllers are IR so I thought I might be able to put some kind of extension on the existing IR so that I can run it through the wall and use it. I would still want the original sensor to work since that is how I turn it on and swap disks.

The extension would have to be about 6 feet long by the way.

You wouldn't want to add another one, but extending the one that's in it is doable, it's only 3 wires.

You can get IR Extnenders/Repeaters at just about any A/V store. They are very common and not too expensive. I would suggest the wall-plate type. They look very clean when installed in the wall.

Here is a decent guide at setting one up.

Smarthome.com also has some good info and some good all inclusive packages

Or you could get an RF remote extender and use the remote just about anywhere in the hous. I would recommend this if you distribute the 360 to multiple TVs in the house.

I am aware of those but not sure I want to use that. I just can't help but think it can't be that great for the big button controllers.

I was thinking about a USB infra red receiver. I think I have an MCE one laying around I might try that.

just unsolder the ir receiver off the mobo, add the new wires to extend it, mabey a few feet at most, its only 3 wires as rdc said. then just take some double sided sticky tape and put it on the back of the receiver. stick it to the outside of your little encloser and whala, its tiny and works great smile.gif

You dont even have to unsolder. Just cut and extend.

try he mentioned not soldering. cutting and extending means stripping 3 wires, two on each side, and just loosely wrapping it around the pins on the ir piece. that means your doing this 6 times on a tiny component. 3 on the mobo, 3 on the ir piece. good luck keeping that stable. try thinking before you insault

No dude. He means you don't have to unsolder the IR receiver from the mobo. He didn't say don't solder the wires to their respective spots.

Keep it on topic or don't bother posting. Just because ya cut the IR receiver from the board doesn't mean you wrap the wires around the thing, If it did what could you wrap the wires to on the board? So of course the wires to extend it would have to be soldered in place, both onto the board and the IR receiver, either way will work, cut it or remove it, or an IR extender as was also mentioned.

The IR Receiver for "Scene It" is attached to a 10 foot USB cord. Why exactly would you need to extend it still?

Maybe I just misunderstood the question.
