Xbox 360 Dash update is now available
Posted by XanTium | December 4 07:16 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From majornelson.com (FYI: MS owned site):
I am happy to announce that the latest dashboard update has now been officially released and is in process of being rolled out across the LIVE service. For many of you, the next time you sign in to Xbox LIVE, you will be prompted to receive the update. A couple of things to keep in mind over the next few hours as the update is deployed:

* You'll be prompted to accept the update when you sign into Xbox Live sometime in the next few hours. You will only receive the prompt for the update upon sign in. You won't get it in middle of a game.
* Regardless of what you have heard, it's not geographically based. No one area of the world will get it before another.
* If you log out and then back in again, this won't force the update...it will only anger people on your friends list who will see you sign in, then out, then in, then out ...
* Be patient, everyone will eventually receive the update
Full details and changelog of fall update: here.
As always ... update at own risk on modified consoles (although initial reports indicate no new issues for now) and keep in mind Microsoft might have found a way to block/prevent the "Timing Attack" to downgrade your kernel. So if you want to keep the possibility to run linux and homebrew in the future we suggest you don't apply the fall update yet until hackers analyzed the new kernel and can tell us if the "Timing Attack" still works or not.

Updated fine (Unbelievably quick to update compared to the PSP & PS3 firmware's)

After re-booting then returning to the dashboard it takes a few seconds to scan the system content but after that it absolutely flys.

All I need now is an update to connect 360 (from nullriver) for my Mac to include all of my divx/xvid videos and Im sorted.

I ran WMP11 in my XP Parallel's Desktop and added all of my videos via shared drives. The 360 has played everything back flawlessly.

Excellent update.

It won't matter. the update downloads and verifies before installing. In other words it will not install as it is downloading.

I'm not experiencing that here. I just tried 5 of my videos and it played back 2x of them successfully (1x needed an extra update that was fine).

For me this added feature lives or dies on whether it plays all of my media, otherwise I may aswell stick to my xbox 1 that has been working away perfectly, no point in messing around switching between the two.

UPDATE:

Seems to play all my films but struggles on my TV eps (watch more TV eps than films tbh) , shame it needs wmp 11 in tha background too - but then one MS device talking to another MS device was always gonna need an intermediary lol.

Heres the link but its still linked to the Spring update file, so give it a few hours (I hope): http://www.xbox.com/en-AU/support/xbox360/...es.htm#download
Note the link is for Australia, couldn't find one for GB, but both the US and Australia page points to the same link, enjoy.

Anyone tried x264 yet? It is supposed to work with H264 but I am unsure about x264 formats.

Nice update apart from a few bugs

1280x720 on the vga nolonger works with my 40" Samsung Lcd
1366x768 works though

50hrz Divx/Xvid's dont work on on the vga port (apart from 640x480)

work fine on component and svideo

Updated Fine, Dash is running a lot quicker.

Xvid/divx working well, but won't be giving up on XBMC just yet.
