TVersity v0.9.11.3 - Add Support for Fall Update07
Posted by XanTium | December 5 03:03 EST | News Category: Xbox360

A new version of TVersity Media Server(info) has been released. TVersity allows you to stream pretty much any media (music/pictures and video) format to your Xbox 360 (with on-the-fly transconding if required) from a Windows PC.
What's new/fixed:
* Support for Xbox 360 2007 Fall update, Divx/Xvid can play natively.
* Support fast-forward, rewind and skipping with Xbox 360 while transcoding, within the portion of the media that was already transcoded.
* Include all the patches for the Sony PS3 firmware verison 2, including support for WMA lossless and FLAC.
* Revert HR20 profile to use PCM audio since many users do not have a firmware with WAV support, and add two new profiles for HR20 with WAV support and for HR20 with MP3 support to be set manually by users that have an adequate firmware.
* Support fast forward and rewind within transcoded media with PS3 firmware 2.
* Add experimental support for Windows Mobile - downloading and streaming audio is now supported with Windows Mobile 5.0 or higher, only MSIE and WMP are required.

Found this proggy while back ago, great for streaming WMV HD files, quick setup and now works with DivX/XviD only thing that is mysterious for me right now and I don't understand at all is that after I leave server in background for a while it somehow without my any subscriptions or any input starts downloading bunch of files like podcasts from NBC, random pictures from Flick and other shite that can take up to 1.2GB uhh.gif WTF ? to the following folder C:\Program Files\TVersity\Media Server\data\download did anybody had sruff happening like that ?

Two things...
First of all, woot on support for WM! Of course, since Orb already does this, and it's setup pretty well for me already, I guess the only time I'd use TVersity is when I'm at my house... where I'd be watching my stuff on a bigger and better screen.

Second of all... I still can't believe it after all this time. How do you not include the absolute most basic of all audio codecs to start with?

Yes, you have to remove all the worthless internet sources that they include by default.

My only wish is that it could remux MKV to AVI now for xvid/divx mkv's...

Of course you can.

But using tversity is marginally less pleasant than putting your penis in a cross-cut shredder.

So should i install windows media 11 and use TVersity
or
Stick with Windows Media 2005 (rollup 2)?

Right now i just want to stream x264 720p files from my pc.
Maybe even replace Xbmc (old xbox) eventually?

TVersity vs Windows Media Center 2005?

The xbox360 does not play x264 files (with either WMP11 or WMC 2005) so you'd have to use TVersity to stream the files to your 360. I've used TVersity to stream Divx files to the 360 but the quality is no where near what the fall update has. I now use WMP11 to share my DivX (5+) and Xvid coded avi to the 360. I tried playing some avi's but it would not read them because there were coded in Divx 3.

edit: I read that the xbox360 does support x264, the video needs to be in a mp4 container and the audio AAC 2 channel.

Well put... but unfortunately kinda true.

I tried getting setup with Tversity as It has worked in the past, I've formated since then and went to reinstall.
The walk through suggest opening external ports and port forwarding, which I didn't do as I see no real reason to be opening external ports for a service thats running locally. blink.gif Maybe I'm missing something.

With Tversity running, upnp on or off, the Xbox doesn't see it.

So I looked for a mirror of Windows Media Connect.
Installed, found the box right away and added some folders and popped right up on the screen on the xbox.
While it doesn't transcode anything, most all of my files seemed to play.

Mirror was here

The main problem I have with TVersity is that the quality of the video degrades as it gets transcoded to the 360. Has anyone else noticed this?
