Well put... but unfortunately kinda true.
I tried getting setup with Tversity as It has worked in the past, I've formated since then and went to reinstall.
The walk through suggest opening external ports and port forwarding, which I didn't do as I see no real reason to be opening external ports for a service thats running locally.

Maybe I'm missing something.
With Tversity running, upnp on or off, the Xbox doesn't see it.
So I looked for a mirror of Windows Media Connect.
Installed, found the box right away and added some folders and popped right up on the screen on the xbox.
While it doesn't transcode anything, most all of my files seemed to play.
