Hi,

I have had another xbox go down with disc reading problems and have ordered a replacement.

I used the slax method to get the drive into mode B, however I recieve a not responding error when 'spinning up disc...'. I assume this is because I'm having reading errors anyway?

Either way, the drive is in mode B as the ejecting takes 2 presses, etc and the drive shows up in Windows.

To replace the drive, I obviously need the key from it, so using C4EVA iExtreme v1.2 Stealth I ran flashix.bat and it only gets as far as dumping 2 files, key.bin (16 bytes) and was.bin (256kb) before saying the following...

The system cannot excecute the specified program.

ERROR: Hitachi drive build was NOT detected!

Helpfully it then lists 4 possible problems, 3 of which I have eliminated. One of them is "Your x360 drive is not a working version", I hope this has nothing to do with my disc reading errors?

Basically, I'm not too bothered about reflashing the drive with iExtreme, i just want to know if the key.bin (16 bytes) and was.bin (256k) I have are enough to flash my new replacement drive?

Also, are there programs you can use to validate these files?

Cheers

Hi

Download Firmware Toolbox 4.5 and run it. Open the was.bin file you dumped and the application should validate it as a Hitachi v47. Most importantly it should list your drive key. This is the most important part! Either note it down in a text file, or add it to Firmware Toolbox using the area at the bottom of the screen - either way is good. You now have your drive key, meaning you can replace the drive with whatever one you want. How you replace it depends on the drive you're looking to use.

Thanks for the reply Martinchris23,

I have a 32 character key being displayed so I can safely say it was a good dump.

I will be doing a direct replacement with another v47, but was not aware that you could change between DVD drive models as long as you had your original key.

Thanks again.

Oops, forgot to ask, which Hitatchi hacked firmware allows play of un-stealthed backups?

iExtreme 1.2 rev2 will only play stealthed backups as far as I'm aware & I'm aware of the xbox live implications of what I'm asking.

1. You *can* replace with any drive, but you need to spoof the new one to report as the same model as the old one. You're doing a like for like swap, so in all honesty it may be better just to swap the drive boards around. Remove the one on the faulty and place on the new one.

2. Check the Releases, Guides and Tutorials - it will tell you the release history prior to the iXtreme firmware releases. I believe it's v2.4.

What a fantastic piece of advice! Changing the board will save tons of hassle.

Thanks so much for your help.
