From gamasutra.com:
[QUOTE]
Hardware numbers were up 47% to $1.1 billion, with the DS and Wii both nearly tripling and doubling the month prior, respectively, followed by similarly impressive jumps for the Xbox 360, PSP, PlayStation 2, and then PlayStation 3. The full charts are as follows:

Nintendo DS - 1.53 million (from 458k)
Wii - 981K (from 519k)
Xbox 360 - 770K (from 366k)
PSP - 567K (from 286k)
PlayStation 2 - 496K (from 184k)
PlayStation 3 - 466K (from 121k)

Finally, NPD showed that game accessories were up 52% to $243 million. Said Frazier, "We get asked a lot about the performance of the 360 HD-DVD add-on. Life-to-date sales of this accessory are 269K units in the U.S., representing a 3.4% attach rate to the 360 install base."

MS held the highest software attach rate on all multiplatform titles and all of it's exclusives outsold PS3 exclusives for the month.. R&C PS3 has all but disappeared and Uncharted has obismal numbers in NA(total worldwide sales aren't much better for either).

Hopefully this sends a message to developers that if you want to actually make money on your games don't make them PS3 exclusive. Naughty Dog and Insomniac are not owned by Sony even though they are definately sleeping together.. I'd like to see them try doing something on the 360 platform, even though I doubt it will ever happen.. Just a shame to see these dev's losing their investments when they can't even recoupe dev costs in a timely manner. Hopefully Kojima see these as well.. He said he needs MGS4 to sell 1 million units on day one.. It's possible, but what a way to gamble putting all your egg's in Sonys basket.

And before someone says "well the 360 has a larger install base" that should actually help Sony.. Smaller install base will give you a larger attach rate if they are all buying games. And the 360 never suffered this problem in it's first year. 360 people buy games!

Sorry to ramble, one too many drinks this evening.. tongue.gif

let me add that the ps3 is also marketed as a cheap blu ray player. This negatively affects the attach rate. The ps2s attach rate suffered earlier when it was the cheapest dvd player. History repeats itself.

remember this ref: black friday sales

"Microsoft claimed that the Xbox 360 outsold the PS3 2 to 1. Sony denies this, saying that the numbers are way off.

When Microsoft was approached for a response to this comment from Sony, they said that:

Microsoft stands by their 2:1 claim which stems from estimates from retailers."

Turns out that Sony shifted approx 49k PS3's on black friday, Microsoft shifted 770k for the whole month so to sell 100k on black friday would have been entirely possible. If sales were mainly at the weekends then they would have averaged 192k per weekend.

770k vs 466k that 1.65 to 1 for the WHOLE of November

And remember the 360 is ONLY a gaming machine not a cheap Blu-Ray player that can also play games.

I agree with perfectgun. Game publishers should take note of these figures.

so who wants to bet when you'll see hundreds of used Wii's at gamestop for under $100? i can't believe that console is selling so many, it's truly ridiculous. it's a horrible machine for games. i guess there's enough people in this world that think it's 1) good for exercise and 2) more fun cause you can move around.

Game publishers should follow world figures and trends not just US ones. I know it's a stretch but believe it or not gaming exists in other countries as well

World figures still have the 360 doing very well in both hardware and software. Maybe not individually but combined, u stand a chance a better chance at making profits if u go wii60.

Also, ppl dont realise that the gaming population (thats in bold for a reason) in the US is greater than any other region in the world. Americans buy more games, no doubt.

The wii sells based on attractiveness. the system is very approachable to the consumer and thats its main strength and the other consoles' weakness. The wii is simple, it has one SKU, a cute gimick and a nice price. The ps3 is the most intimidating of the 3 with its ever-changing SKUs while the the 360 goes for the middle ground with its numerous SKUs but slightly easier to understand differences, it also helps that it has the best library of the bunch. The consoles sell directly proportionate to their attractiveness. The magic sales price point is $199. The wii is the closest console to that. Therefore its sales numbers arent really that surprising. Until these consoles are sold at the same price point and have less confusing SKUs the console race will always look like this.

oh yea... i wanna be an analyst when i grow up tongue.gif
