| QUOTE (Achtung @ Jun 14 2003, 11:26 AM) | | I dont know how anyone could believe you could be banned by trying to connect to live without your cable plugged in. Its impossible, it doesnt even detect a connection to start up so even if that was were they flagged your bios on connecting it would have to atleast detect a Connection first before it could check for bios. | Exactly. That is what I have always thought. But, when people say they did the same thing, and they were banned, I want to test it out myself

| QUOTE (shanafan @ Jun 18 2003, 12:00 AM) | Well, its been about a week and a half, and I am still unbanned. So, I still stick to my original talk.
Accessing Live with the modchip on, BUT your network cable unplugged, will NOT result in a ban. |
It depends on the game title...moto gp won't do it but others will
O and another thing. unplug the cable and then access the live tab..wait for it to say network error. check back in about 2 days.. you'll be banned. ever notice if you have your modchip on and you access the live tab it takes longer to get to the account screen? thats the xbox writing the flag to your eeprom.

Congratulations! your right if you access a live tap with your mod chip on connected to the internet you will be Banned, everyone spread the word what a break through.
Seriously man if you couldnt remeber to not access a live tap with your mod chip on, I know you had your cable pluged in and thats why you were banned. You cannot be banned from live if your Xbox is not even connected to the internet, How could it flag a bios if it first doesnt even detect a connection it would have to send and recieve that info to the server WHICH CAN NOT HAPPEN IF YOUR NOT EVEN CONNECTED.

If your dashboard didn't have Live, it would install it. Otherwise it would update it if your dashboard's Live s/w version was older than the one on the GP2 disc.

What you are saying is that the Live service detects the modchip and then flags the EEPROM.... How would you know this? It's pure speculation....
There is NO reason that a game or the msdash couldn't flag the EEPROM before checking the status of the ethernet port. Think about what you are saying.
Such in a game, the connection sequence could be:
1. Click the Live tab. 2. Check for mod chip 3. If chip detected, flag the EEPROM. 4. Check ethernet status.... 5. If cable plugged in, connect to live server. 6. If EEPROM flag detected, upload detail, and BAN.... 7. If EEPROM flag not detected, everythings good....
Hence judging what I have read, the best way (though not clarified yet, and probably never will) is to use a program such as the one I wrote to detect the cable before the game is launched, and even then keep aN EEPROM backup in case you accidentally select the live tab whilst mod is on. The ultimate solution would be to not have a live enabled game on the HD, and not have a link to the MS Dash in EvoX...
I REALLY want to get this clarified...
