Official Response from Microsoft on Xbox LIVE's Problems: Free Arcade Game
Posted by XanTium | January 4 00:14 EST | News Category: Xbox360

Here is an official message from Marc Whitten (gamertag: Notwen), General Manager of Xbox LIVE, on what has been going on with LIVE since december 21st:
[QUOTE]
Dear Xbox LIVE Members:

During this past holiday season you helped us break a number of Xbox LIVE records. This included our largest sign-up of new members to Xbox LIVE in our 5 year history and just yesterday you broke the record for the single biggest day of concurrent members ever on the service.

As a result of this massive increase in usage we know that some of you experienced intermittent Xbox LIVE issues over the holiday break. While the service was not completely offline at any given time, we are disappointed in our performance. I would like to take this moment to thank you each and every one of you for your patience and understanding as our team has worked around the clock to return the service to a stable state.

At the same time we would like to offer a token of our appreciation to all of you in celebration of record success for the service. And as a thank you for your loyalty during this holiday period, we will be offering all of our Xbox LIVE members around the world access to a full Xbox LIVE Arcade game that will be available to download free of charge. In the coming weeks we will be sharing the specific details of this offer with you.

Thank you again for helping make Xbox LIVE everything that it is today!

Sincerely,
Marc Whitten
General Manager, Xbox LIVE

Wonder if my RROD 360 will be repaired before this offer needs to be collected on. It died New Year's Eve.

In Australian money, Live Gold is about AU$1.50 per week I think. I'll take a 400MSP / AU$6.65 arcade game thanks very much smile.gif

It's actually ~89 cents a week. .89x56weeks=~$50.00 (12+1 month XBL card). But even still like mentioned above, were getting a $5 dollar game (assuming its a 400 point xbla game) for about $1.78 of loss time (approx. two weeks). rolleyes.gif

well yeah i guess it is better to get a game but the week would last me longer because i would probably just use the arcade game for a few minutes. idk i hope they get the service fixed that would be the best thing for them to worry about right now ha

I wonder if they'll give us something to choose from or hand out something crappy. Puzzle Fighter sounds cool to me. Spongebob Underpants does not.

haha. they probably were already planning on giving us a game and decided to use it now as "compensation"

i've been frustrated with the entire live situation but honestly it hasnt been enough to where anyone should whine.

oh well, free game is always nice no matter

Hmmmm... I only paid US$12 for the entire year (well, paid up for three years at the time), thanks to KMart's wonderful clearance sales.

The free game will probably be Uno or Bankshot Billiards Deluxe...

My guess is that they'll give you a Microsoft Game Studio produced arcade game. If you're lucky they'll let you choose one out of a list.
