CES2008: Gates Praises Xbox 360 Reliability
Posted by XanTium | January 10 16:48 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From eurogamer.net:
[QUOTE]
Soon to be sort of retired Microsoft chief Bill Gates has called Xbox 360 the most reliable console on the market.
His comments were made at CES to the BBC, which fired reader concerns at him - a remarkable amount apparently concerning Xbox failure rate.

"Well we certainly had to apologise to our users about the number of boxes that had to be replaced. We did that for free, for all those people, and we got a lot of positive feedback about the way we handled it," said Gates.
"We've got incredible reliability on the new work that we've done. Our commitment is that it will be the most reliable videogame box out there. People love the Xbox because of the content, but we've got to make sure the hardware never stands in the way of that."

This is a joke right?
The 360 is still the LEAST reliable system of the 3 currently on the market. This goes for the replacement consoles too, way to many reports of replaced consoles having issues still. The ps3 has had very minimal complaints and the Wii has had very little as well.

You got a long way to go Billy boy, don't let your mouth make comments your console can't live up to.

If you actually read the article and not just the headline he doesn't call the 360 the most reliable console he is saying the newly manufactured 360's are going to me more reliable. He is also in effect apologizing admitting there is a problem and saying they are trying to correct it. considering the huge amount of denying they have done this is all a big step and I hope he is telling the truth about the newly manufactured 360's being a lot more reliable.

HAHAHA!

it wasn't their commitment to make one that doesn't break when they first released it. only after everyone complained that a lot weren't working did they do anything about it.

They can start by removing the x-clamp from the 360's in production...

M$ will never admit that the X-clamp is a design flaw. But they cannot argue with the return rate of broken 360s so that they have to admit.

Wow...I wouldn't be so annoyed with the 360 if I didn't void the warranty. Less that 6 months in my 360 quit (May 2nd 2007). I managed to fix it using one of the methods on here and it worked for a number of months. It has since died multiple times and I feel I'm constantly trying to get it running again. I'm going to try once more but if it dies again I may give up on it I'll feed it to the fishes.

Personally I'm on my third box, I've never had to replace/repair a video game console that many times before. I also now at least a dozen people who have had to replace/repair their own consoles. Sorry, but that's not reliable. On the other hand, what else is he going to say, that they have a horrible failure rate?

Lol, I'm on my 4th Xbox and have had accessories continually break like the headset. Definitely the least reliable piece of hardware I have ever owned. I'm sure because Gates doesn't have to deal with these problems himself he doesn't find it an issue...

That headline is completely misleading.

Bill does NOT praise the Xbox 360 reliability.

All he did was communicate their goal for the future: making the 360 the most reliable console. In other words, it hasn't been reliable, and their goal is to fix that.

Lets face it, the track record is appalling, and it doesn't give you much confidence. But in MS defence, that headline is pure BS.

Eurogamer's sensationalist headlines FTL.

Xbox-Scene shouldn't have copied n' pasted it.

Agreed

The headline is totally misleading and the first sentence isn't even true "Bill Gates has called Xbox 360 the most reliable console on the market". What he actually said was "Our commitment is that it will be the most reliable videogame box out there" which is completely different. I know the older boxes were all flawed and I'm not sticking up for M$ but this article is a load of toss.

It's always good to see the media isn't getting rusty on twisting peoples words.

He says the NEW 360s are reliable. Not all of them. He says it WILL be the most reliable system, meaning it currently isn't.

"People love the Xbox because of the content, but we've got to make sure the hardware never stands in the way of that." Basically, they're going to be more carefull from now on. They know the main thing stopping them from winning the console war by a long shot is their reliability.

I'm no Gates fanboy (though I do like my 360), but his words are being taking out of context. Not a cool move in my books.
