Theres several formats i know of...

*.rom
*.n64
*.v64
*.z64

I dont know if there is anymore, but all of those are valid N64 ROMs extentions.

What about roms that are *.usa? Can we rename them or what? Will PJ64X read them?

I very much doubt you can just rename them, the headers of each file will be totally differant, thats why they have differant extentions. Just leave it how it is, and if the EMU is worth anything then support for those file extentions will be added later.

You can also zip each one up, and it works fine. Might as well save a little space.

The EMU still unpacks the zip files, so that doesnt really solve the problem of whether certain extentions are supported or not tongue.gif But yeah, zip them all up and save yourself some space, then once the extentions are supported it saves you messing around.

what about the ACTUAL rom format. rather than extention.

I remember a program called RTOOL. do a search.

you would fire it up and you can convert the formats from Doctor V, to Z64 etc... you can also flip the roms and do
a load more things with them..

There was also another tool call PALadine (i think). This would change the format from NTSC to PAL or MPAL etc..

it might help people to get them loaded. It may also help if people get the details of the roms from these utilities.

Ie if someone is having no trouble at all with a rom.. as in no sound glitches or anything, use these utils to let eveyone know what rom type it is, and region etc.

If people can't find them I could post them? they are free utils.

Heres some free info, the .usa extension signifiys that it is a USA rom (most likely NTSC) this is an easy way to tell if it is a PAL rom or not...

There are only 2 formats of n64 rom with each format specific to the backup device it was created on. .v64 for roms created on the Doctor v64 (or jr) and .rom for those created on the z64. All of the other extensions are meaning less with regard to the rom format itself. I forget which is which but one of the 2 formats is big endian and the other is little endian both of which are supported by the emulator.

If you mean they were something.v64.exe then I think you've downloaded a virus, man! Double-extensions like that are a sure sign of a virus. (If you really meant .v64exe then I don't have a clue what that is).
