Microsoft's Rumored Acquisitions Big for Xbox?
Posted by XanTium | January 14 20:25 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From xboxfamily.com:
[QUOTE]
What a week for acquisition rumors as Microsoft is rumored to be after peripheral pimp - Logitech and internet king - Yahoo.

Logitech has long been known as a computer peripheral maker that likes to dabble in console controllers and add-ons. Microsoft has scaled back it's own peripheral manufacturing over the last couple years. If Logitech were to be purchased by MS, it could mean we would see a host of new and quality gaming gizmos for the Xbox 360 and next generation of Xbox hardware. With a quality track record for racing wheels and controllers, there's no doubt MS could benefit from dipping into the R&D department of Logitech for gaming related peripherals.

Next up is the Yahoo acquisition rumor. This rumor has spread like wild fire since word broke from the New York Post. The reason gamers should be interested in an MS purchase of Yahoo is simple. Yahoo is the number one internet site in the world and the biggest competitor to Google on just about every front. Yahoo has R&D going on for just about everything imaginable that has to do with internet technologies. This includes digital delivery services of video and gaming content. And due to recent issues with XBL, we all know MS could use any new help they can get in bettering their online services.
Something to think about: MSN combined with Yahoo. MSN Zone (online gaming) combined with Yahoo games. The list goes on and thanks to the trickle down effect; it could only make Xbox gaming better.

The logitech rumour is nice.

We've been waiting along time for Logitech 360 peripherals, including a high end wireless headset. Fans of the Logitech one for the original Xbox have been patiently waiting for a new one.

I personally don't give a shit for Yahoo.

I'm assuming Microsoft is going to own our grocery stores and our schools pretty soon?

Seriously, Microsoft will own everything before we know it.

The logitech rumour is very nice, could mean so many more great products from them with MS's financial support. As long as they keep making great speaker systems like the Z5400 which they STUPIDLY discontinued, then its fine by me. IMO, 2 years ago was the best time for logitech with their speakers. Now they only have the small and cheap or big surround system, need the Z5400 back in production. I have it and reckon its the best.

But yeah, as hsdemonz said, i dont care about yahoo. Never liked em.

for things like Keyboards and mice, all I'm really seeing are MS and Logitech anyways.. not much competition there.

As for speakers.. pc centric speaker.. we have what.. Logitech.. Lansing.. maybe creative.. not alot of competition there either.

I don't have a problem with monopolies if I get a good product.

I've had Logitech, Lansing and Creative...Creative being my favorite for their Gigaworks 750 and I also have a DDTS-100 to use it as home speaker system. I understand that this setup won't work for smaller rooms, for which I prefer Logitech, Altec Lansing has seemed to turn into crap lately. What we need is a revamp from all 3.

Yeah. Like quality will go UP (or even stay the same, if we are lucky) when MS rules the roost. MOAR PROFIT = crappier quality for the end user.

Expect your new controllers to RROD. Or even blue-screen. Or best, stop working when XBOX Live is down because it can't connect home to send your fingerprints for DRM verification to the mother ship... unsure.gif

I haven't use Yahoo in years, in fact probably in a decade, I kinda hate these user opinionated news posts. They contain no fact and just what the user wants to see in the end result.

You people honestly think that consumers will benefit from microsoft owning everything? How will the purchase of logitech produce better xbox accessories? As if logitech didn't already make xbox accessories. This just means they won't be able to make accessories for anything else. I'm sure for some people who frequent this site, and who only buy microsoft crap, this wouldn't make much of a difference, but it would be terrible for everyone else. Some of the best, most innovative accessories are third party because they can get the console to do things above and beyond what it was originally intended to do (gameshark, wireless controllers for previous gen systems, etc.)

And I fail to see how aquiring Yahoo would be beneficial to xbox users other then allowing them to text message with both MSNim and Y!im buddys on the 360. Do you honestly think microsoft would produce anything usefull with the aquired yahoo intellectual property? No, it'll just be one less competitor for them to worry about in the internet services industry, especially considering that microsoft has already copied most of the services

Seriously, what's next? In its quest for total domination Microsoft purchases a terrorist organization to blow up Google because they refuse to be bought?
