Microsoft Plans Big Announcements In GDC Keynote
Posted by XanTium | January 15 15:12 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From blog.wired.com:
[QUOTE]
Stevenotes? Meh. The suit-and-tie speech that's getting gamers riled up this morning is Microsoft's GDC keynote, which promises big news about the Xbox 360's upcoming year in software.
Corporate vice president of Live, software and services John Schappert, who joined the company in August coming from Electronic Arts, will deliver an address on Wednesday, February 20 called "A Future Wide Open: Unleashing the Creative Community." In an email announcing the keynote, the GDC described it thusly:

"Schappert's keynote explores the Xbox 360 platform's next step in democratizing game development, vastly opening up the industry for developers of all sizes. The session will set the strategy for Xbox 360 this upcoming year, revealing top developers' plans for the platform in 2008. Schappert will discuss how the increasing role of online gaming will continue to shape gameplay and game distribution this year. (emphasis ours)"

How can they elaborate on the future of Live services when no-one can determine what is happening with Xbox Live now?

The future of online gaming with the xbox 360 is currently in jeopardy.

What's the matter with live that would put the future in jeopardy? I thought they only had a small issue that wasn't as big of a deal as people made it out to be?

Maybe I didn't read up enough. I thought they had the issue not too long ago when there was spotty connections and some people couldn't log in at all. The whole ordeal around the holiday correct?

Unless there is something I am missing....I don't see how anything is even remotely close to being in jeopardy.

No, it's not fixed. There are still issues, but they're all minor and sporadic. Long delays logging in, temporarily lost connections, voice chat not working, that sort of thing.

Could have been a small issue affecting XBL, but it had a big impact and visibility...

Small issue = someone unplugged a machine. Impact = no-one can play anymore.

MS has been relatively quiet since Peter Moore left. I wanna see what this former EA guy can do.
