Top Microsoft Executives Are Leaving the Company Like Rats from a Sinking Ship?
Posted by XanTium | January 17 13:43 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From softpedia.com:
It all started in the second week of January with Microsoft confirming the departure of Bruce Jaffe, Corporate Vice President, Corporate Development. But Jaffe signaled only the beginning of what was to come. It is hard not to look at Jaffe as a trend setter, but the fact of the matter is that lately Microsoft top executives have illustrated an increased tendency to leave the Redmond company.

With Jaffe out to put his own start-up on its feet, the next on the list was Jeff Raikes, President of the Microsoft Business Division.

After Raikes, it was the turn of Charles Fitzgerald, Microsoft's General Manager of Platform Strategy, to leave the company in favor of a start-up.

And then there were four. Microsoft top executives continued to drop like flies with Short, Corporate Vice President for Windows Core.

And of course that in the background, there is the shadow cast by Bill Gates' own imminent departure as of mid 2008. Although with Gates it's a whole deal entirely as his transition plans out of Microsoft were announced as early as 2006.
Note: And not so long ago the Xbox division lost Peter Moore to EA and J Allard to Zune (still at Microsoft however).

People leave jobs for other oprotunities all the time. Why such a big deal when MS empoyee's do it?

I really don't understand why its looked at as such a conspiracy or sign that MS is going down hill.

Maybe I'm not reading between the lines here and totally took this incorrectly...

Hello Fellow Gamers. Wow top execs leaving. So what of it. Nobody lives forever. Those guys have tons of money anyway. I wouldn't want to be working at M$ all my life & not enjoys my spoils. Well these so called "RATS" are richer than most people in this country.
Will this impact M$? Hhhmmmnnnnooooo... Will this stop the sales of windows? No. Will this stop the sales of X360s? No. Will this stop M$ from making tons of more money than it already has? No. Don't forget this is one of World largest & wealthiest companies in the world. A few execs leaving won't change that. In fact the people taking their spot might make it better for the company, not worse.

It's always good to clean house. Maybe some fresh faces will help MS regain some control of it's divisions.
And maybe get some great designers in there since Apple is killing them with their awesome product designs.

It may be time for a little restructuring for MS. What if amazingly the company reinvented itself and became the innovative and leadingly popular company it was in the 80's and early 90's? blink.gif

I'm not sure what they see, but I think this may be one of the best things that ever happened for them. Now the company won't be just what BG sees, but what true companies or some kind of greatness can become. I think it may be good.

BTW... its VERY normal for a top person to leave and his/her subordinates to want to leave as well. It happened at my highschool when my principal left, it happens when coaches leave teams, it happens when executives leave companies.

Hmm... executives leaving a company isn't that big of a deal... now if they were dumping all of their stock for that company then that would be a different story.

LoL you would be surprised, there is a Linux Division at Microsoft and they also allow people to use Macs (I have a Mac Mini as well), Mircrosoft has changed a lot in recent years, they don't really mind what technology you use, I guess you just don't annoy them..Hell even Major Nelson and E both have a PS3 (and I do), surely that would be wrong? But no there gamers like you and me. Nice joke though hehe..

It's all about the qualifications you get as well and weather you are good at the job in question, plenty of time for me to decide what to do but it would be cool to work at a big corporation like Microsoft, Apple, Google etc. But I need to get my degree first hehe..

not to echo everyone's thoughts but I agree that this article is a sad excuse for news..."sinking ship"...not even close, start-ups are a great way for people to use their talent and express more creativity and so many of these execs are just chasing more of what they love...just think about how many people are excited about these openings...
