I lost 4 pieces of very small parts and about 2 pieces of even more smaller parts than

those which I lost 4 pieces. and totally 6pieces of the parts are all from back side of motherboard near CPU.

I lost them while I was trying to open X clamp to respread thermal grease.

after the accident I tested my xbox360 but It worked very well.

some people in my nation(korea) says that right now , It could work without the small parts

but my xbox360 will be broken little by little....

Could anybody let me know what will happen If I use my xbox360 without reparing ?
Or Is there any possibility of those 6 small parts are completely useless so my xbox won't
be broken forever altough I do not repair it?

the smar parts are seems like RESISTANCES

and lastly sorry for bad english that's because
Im from korea good night.

It still works? blink.gif
I would be very careful with that motherboard.

They are obviously there for a reason, would you happen to have a picture?

It works or it doesn't but it does not die slowly because of missing parts. I'm sure something is not working... Could be a signal line for some special kind of controller or usb or something else. If these parts were useless MS hadn't put them there smile.gif Costs money and does nothing isn't the way to go for a company.
Best would be a picture so someone could tell you what these parts are and what they are for.

thanks so much for replying.

I noticed from korean website that the parts I lost are called " Ceramic capacitor of smd type "

somebody told me that capacior's job is removing noise(not meaning volume) of signals
and although my xbox is missing the capacitors, It won't cause any bad effect to motherboard
but rate of happening erorrs or something could be increased by missing those parts.

I hope to hear your opinion.. Is that he told me true?

Could be capacitors or resistors... It doesn't matter. They connected 2 parts of a trace and now they're gone so the trace is dead. That is if you haven't put solder on the spot were the part used to be (don't do this!). If someone here can tell you the values for the missing parts replace them, otherwise let it be as it is. Maybe some day you will run into a problem when your newly acquired gear doesn't work or an update refuses to install but then you know why.

Capacitors are used to capture to much power and give out a more stable power so the guy told you the right thing wink.gif

Capacitors let AC thru but block DC, they're just there as filters to take any ripple off the DC line. Each power pin of the CPU, or any IC really, has one that goes to ground. Missing a few of them isn't going to hurt anything and it'll be fine without them.

actually I was really afraid that a few days later, without capacitors

CPU will die or something crittical will happen.

but now Im so relieved

If he said it will die slowly, it sounds like you lost the cooling material for the RAM chips...which in theory could actually happen....

if its just the tiny capacitors under the cpu , no worries , you could still run your xbox perfectly without half of them , tested that my self , i dont think youll see any bad results in a couple of years

I had one of the smaller capacitors come off the back side of the gpu. It was throwing 0102 I believe. When I took the board out the capacitor was still stuck to the board but not on its solder points it was touching another capacitor beside it. Anyways I never tried booting it up with it completely removed. I tried to resolder it back on to no avail it was just way too small and my tip was too big. So I said screw it I will just bridge it and run it. Working fine but was this a bad idea for long term?
