I saw some designs on here with timers and mcus, and decided to make mine own simply design with a transistor and thermister. It works by turning on when a temp is reached and does not turn off till the temp is below that value. The value is set by adjusting a pot so the actual temp value is not known.
Is it safe to use the always on 12v coming into the xbox or should I just stick to using a 12v power supply?

While this isn't a temperature activated unit, this is what I am planning on getting for my 360. I have a stock fan unit attached to the intake grille as well as the 12V mod for the exhaust fan. I, as well would like to have the fans stay on for a while after console shutdown to help cool the GPU. This will allow you to have the fans stay on for a specified period of time (1 sec to 60 min) after the console has been turned off. I plan to use an external 12V power source for the fans, which makes this a whole lot easier to implement.
