Confidential Xbox 360 'RRoD Source' Responds
Posted by XanTium | January 21 17:43 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From 8bitjoystick.com:
[QUOTE]
My source inside the Xbox team posted a response on my Seattle PI reader blog to some of the questions asked in comments.

"First, why the secrecy?
MS knows who I am. That's why I'm not concerned about self identifying to them in these postings with details only they would know, as some here have pointed out. The people who founded Xbox hw number 10. 1 left to go be the VP of manufacturing at Qualcomm, 1 left to go be the GM of engineering at Zune, 1 left after only 2 months in '99 due to conflicts with toddhol [Todd Holmdahl]. He works on Surface now. The rest still work on Xbox. I am the only one who left the company entirely.
I am not concerned about MS knowing who I am. They are worried about me revealing their problems. Not the other way around. Plus, I have contacted every single attorney who has filed a lawsuit against MS and offered to help. Some have accepted, and that work is in progress. We'll talk about that in another post. It's very interesting, I just don't want a bunch of fan boys trying to hack my home PC (that I use for work). Harass my kids, call my house, etc.

Second, why now?
Well, it's not just now. I've been reaching out since before the product went into manufacturing. I left before launch. But many employees continued to contact me about the problems with the product and its launch. I did my best to help them figure out how to mitigate the problems caused my bad management decisions, and test the boxes right. Sometimes my ideas worked, sometimes they didn't. I then started to contact reporters. Sometimes it went no where. Sometimes, it resulted in a spectacular thing, like the ambush interview with toddhol just before MS admitted guilt. But still, it happened too slowly for me. That's one reason I'm doing this now.

Last: My motivation.
I have always been in a position to stand up for the customer. MS stopped me from doing that. They need to pay the price now. If you guys won't get together and make that happen, you have no hope for the future with them. It's not my fight, but I am here fighting. You decide what you want to do. And then do it!

Well my 360 has the RRoD. Ive tried the xclamp replacement method and i eventually got the ring again. Im looking to buy a new 360 and want to know the cheapest option i have to get one of the newest models. Are core systems being remodelled with the new falcon chips? Would i have to get a halo 3 release? Thanks.

Don't ask me my real name ph34r.gif , as I have inside information:

A lot of xbox 360's fail due to overheating, bad solder or cheap components.

Sorry for being daft but what's so "insider" about these blatantly obvious statements?

It's not so much as him stating the obvious. It's the fact that we now know microsoft fully knows the extent of the problem and refuses to acknowledge that. We all know MS knows, but having a "source" that will actually confirm it more or less backs microsoft against a wall.

Didn’t $M acknowledge the problem by replacing your broken Xbox 360 already? I know that they didn’t start doing it right away but this it is not the paradise yet. Just get over it and get a new console if you need to.

its the fact that they let the console go to market with such a bad design flaw. I mean it had to be obvious to them the flaw existed before going to market, and this guy obviously confirms that.

What's worse is they had no plans in place for the fall out it took a good year to get a decent kind of warranty on it, and thats only after media scrutiny started to really focus on these problems. Bottom line here is its a hardware division, the guys designing the system all know the ins and outs of hardware and the importance of efficent cooling. There's no excuses. But microsoft willingly pushed for the bottom line push as many console into circulation as fast as possible to steal market share from sony with a flawed design and fix anything later in a further revision. I think what happened is the problem was more widespread than anticipated with early failures, so much so there's many stories of people having 4 or 5 replacements. It's astounding ive never seen such a thing ive never returned anything 5 times. Faults in electronics equipment is just one of those things, there's always a margin of error. But here it wasnt error as in just one of those faulty models, the design was flawed before it was mass produced.

Saying dont whine just get it replaced totally misses the point, they knew it was faulty, they rushed it out to take market share before the PS3 was established. I think they should be held accountable, its a great system when it works. It should have worked from the start instead of making millions of people in essence beta testers whilst they took a market percentage.

I have insider information too ph34r.gif MS now gives you 3 years of warranty to replace your broken xbox but you must promise not to tell anyone or else all hell would break loose.....the fact is MS screwed up they know it and at least offered a 3 year warranty for it. even those of us with launch consoles if we ever get the RRoD we are covered.. whats the big deal the 360 is a great console and without it we would be stuck with the PS3 which would not be good for gamers....If you take care of your 360 and keep it well ventilated there is a good chance it will last you a long time.. most people though just cram the thing in there with all their electronics and put stuff on top of it then they wonder why it dies on them.

Its probally something to do with the design or shape of the system, that they cant fix it because it the design causes RROD and if they were to fix the design, they would have to recall all 360s and lose $$

They still officially deny that the failure rates are as high as 30-35% while continuously denying that there is a design flaw with the xbox 360.

His efforts are commendable. (not that any of it has changed a thing tho)

But this is a clear and cut case of the little guy going after the big multi billion dollar company, and well all know how it will end. The consumer has been screwed and there is no reason for it to change now. People (the majority anyways) are not going to stop buying their product.

Gamers will buy it, even knowing its going to be a POS product. WTF makes u think MS would spend money on fixing it for if they are making money off selling it as is... broken. The cost of repairs apperently is less to them then it would be to redesign it.

I have no faith in this 'fight' that he is pursueing, but its nice to know some ppl out there give_a_damn_to_fight!
