Ballmer outlines Microsoft's eight long-term growth bets
Posted by XanTium | February 4 13:41 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From zdnet.com:
[QUOTE]
Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer outlined Microsoft's top eight growth targets during his annual "Strategic Update" for Wall Street analysts in New York on February 4. Ballmer repeated several times during the hour-long presentation that "growth will require investment." He noted that his view of what constitutes "long term" is "five to seven to ten years" out -- most likely a lot longer than the typical three-year timeframe typically envisioned by analysts and shareholders.

1. Windows on new PCs
2. Corporate desktop value
3. Server units
4. SMB (small/midsize business) wares
5. Portals and search
6. Online advertising
7. Xbox: When Microsoft talks about hardware, it mostly is talking about Xbox. Ballmer said to watch for Microsoft to continue to push for broader Xbox acceptance in markets where it has been less popular, like continental Europe and Japan. Also watch for the company to do more outreach to non-classic gamers in order to continue to build Xbox market share.
8. Windows Mobile

Might I suggest they start by not treating us like some kind of underclass? Most people here have an American account; we can see how much worse the European Live Marketplace is.

Rock Band was one of the Christmas bestsellers. Except in Europe, where you still can't even buy it.

Beautiful Katamari? Don't make me laugh. Six months and counting.

If Nintendo can get the new Advance Wars over here in four days, why on earth should I give Microsoft any of my money?

If Microsoft wants adoption in Europe, the next dashboard update must remove the region locking.

that is so true!
honestly i think the 360 already lost in europe. (don't get me wrong; i love the 360!)
the marketplace on live is simply a joke compared to the US.
M$ has to smash the megabrand sony out of peoples minds here to have a small chance.
and for whatever reason they don't even seem to try!
such a shame.

my 2 cents,

which part of europe is the marketplace bad cause in uk were not that far behind from us except from the movies and tv shows but part of the reason was licensing i think.
and the from my point of view the x360 is the top console in uk the ps3 game stands in shops seriously lack titles and r over 50% less in size to wii and x360 stands

yeah the rock band delay for us sucks if only it was region free
