Rumor: Team InFeCtuS Working on XD-Card and LCD Addon
Posted by XanTium | February 9 21:58 EST | News Category: Xbox360

We received unconfirmed information that Team InFeCtuS is working on a XD-Card and LCD Xbox360 addon for the Infectus chip:
* LCD Screen Addon: when connected to the Infectus chip it can show information from the Xbox360 south bridge IC (like: cpu temperature, fan speed, tray status, etc...).

* XD-Card Addon: add XD Card Memory to the Infectus chip so it can support multi kernel/dashboard loads.
As soon as official/confirmed information is released about these addons we'll let you know! Remember where you saw it first ;)

Why XD cards? Does it have faster read times than SD cards? I don't think I've even seen a device other than a camera that uses XD cards.

Still doesn't answer the question of why XD versus SD, mini SD, or micro SD... it's not as cheap, small, or ubiquitous as the latter formats.

I'm pretty sure xd is basically a raw flash chip, unlike other types.

From what I see on wikipedia, xD is faster and smaller than SD, but more expenise. xD chips have no controller, so they are closer to a basic NAND TSOP, so they are easier to incorperate into an x360.

xD at sizes smaller than 512MiB or so are a raw NAND in a spiffy package. In fact, they have been using 16 and 32M xD cards as flash replacements (or in some cases dual flash) on 360 with no intermediate controller or circuits needed (for example, I have directly used a 32M xD card as a flash replacement on a PSP, it is just a NAND.)

The thing being, to do the job by hand requires 16-20 wires to be soldered to quite small points.

Sounds like the beginning of something very promising.

Time attack, XD-card, LCD Addon have been brainstormed, invented, designed by hackers on xbh site.
Infectus has good relationship with these hackers and naturally attempts to provide already built devices.
But if you are skilled in electronics you can retrieve data from xbh and build these devices yourself.

You will find out, for example, that XD-card is a good choice because it's an immediate substitute for 360 nand, at electronic level.

Sweet, hoping it's starting to get like the old Xbox 1 mod chips now, that would be awesome.

Nothing revolutionary, as openxdk stated. This has all been available for quite some time now but it is nice that they are bringing it to the general public that isnt a 'hardware' person. As far as the LCD goes, it wont be anything close to what it was for the original Xbox. As far as I have read, only the SMC related information can be displayed, so not nearly as useful as it was in the past.

That being said, it will definitely promote people to downgrade their console and install the XD addon. This way they can use a current Live kernel and still have an exploitable kernel available for use. It goes nicely with their 'downgrade' addon. wink.gif

Caster.
