Best Buy announced today that it believes Blu-ray is the customer's best choice in next-generation format. We are taking this step forward of formally backing Blu-ray in response to customers’ requests for guidance around the high-definition format war. Best Buy believes customers benefit when there’s a single format, due to advantages such as product compatibility and expanded content choices. In addition, customers have shown Blu-ray to be their preference.

“Consumers have told us that they want us to help lead the way. We’ve listened to our customers, and we are responding. Best Buy will recommend Blu-ray as the preferred format,” said Brian Dunn. “Our decision to shine a spotlight on Blu-ray Disc players and other Blu-ray products is a strong signal to our customers that we believe Blu-ray is the right format choice for them.”

Beginning in early March, Best Buy will prominently showcase all Blu-ray hardware and software products in our retail and online channels in the United States and Canada. We will continue to carry a limited assortment of HD-DVD products for customers who desire to purchase these products.
