Microsoft to Yahoo: come back, this isn't over!
Posted by XanTium | February 11 21:48 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From engadget.com:
[QUOTE]
After a torrid moment shared in the backseat of America's largest investment firms, Yahoo decided, at the behest of friends and family, that things just wouldn't work out with Microsoft. But it isn't over. In a very heartfelt public statement today set to the backdrop of In Your Eyes, Microsoft let it be known that it's still interested in "consummating" with Yahoo, and even got a little aggressive sounding in "reserving the right to pursue all necessary steps to ensure that Yahoo!'s shareholders are provided with the opportunity to realize the value inherent in our proposal." You old sweetheart, you're shaking!

"It is unfortunate that Yahoo! has not embraced our full and fair proposal to combine our companies. Based on conversations with stakeholders of both companies, we are confident that moving forward promptly to consummate a transaction is in the best interests of all parties.

We are offering shareholders superior value and the opportunity to participate in the upside of the combined company. The combination also offers an increasingly exciting set of solutions for consumers, publishers and advertisers while becoming better positioned to compete in the online services market."

They almost sounds like saying "NO" wasn't an option for Yahoo! (lol) and that they are giving them a second chance to make the correct answer. Which of course would be "YES" in MS's eyes.

This is very comical to say the least. And I still say its going to happen. I doubt MS would go to such lengths unless they REALLY wanted to or felt the need to.

And when a company as big as MS says GIMME and has the funds to pay for it... they usually end up with just that. In the end, Yahoo will fold. I truely believe this.

Besides, it's common bidding tactics. Start the bid low as you already know that the seller will raise the price either way.

Regardless, this is an interesting topic to keep up with! pop.gif

I'm still interested to know what MS would do with the Yahoo brand. Sure they think it will help compete with Google but I don't think so, I think MS should concentrate on what it's good at, operating systems, office etc etc..i just don't know how Yahoo can do good to MS, probably the only thing worth having is Flicker and Yahoo Messenger.

exactly, but i do wonder why MS wants Yahoo so bad, sure i have read the "why" as presented by the media, but i don't truly see the value, especially with Yahoo's recent struggles...

You guys are funny, it was a very very fair decent proposal.
I mean they offered them what $10 dollars over the current share price at the time.
Heck if I was them I would just lower my bid and lower my bid.

Simply because Yahoo is hurting They have had a loss each quarter for so long that
the shareholders are used to seeing red now.

Yahoo should actually be bought for I think 26billion at face value not sure on the numbers
but I do know they offered way more than what the company is currently worth..

Second thing Its not mainly about google search its more about other things google is pursuing.
I dont know if you guys know but google has been buying Fiber Optic lines for years, and Recently
Made a Bid for a Chunk of the wireless portion, what could google want with that?

One they could do a couple of things. ISP - Internet Service Provider google as a service provider would
be way huger than any of the people at AOL could even imagine.

Second thing they could do is because either a wireless carrier not really likely, but they could do the whole
ISP thing Wirless WI-Max people, it could very very well happen.

And you might be wondering what does this have to do with Microsoft.
Well a while back microsoft was trying, and might still be trying to partner up with
Direct TV to have like content on the 360, you know some special box, some special
price, watch live tv on your 360. And yes I do know microsoft also has that other deal
where they will be brining instant shows through Xbox Live, but that will be only for
FIOS Customers (Fiber Optic Customers) Witch if you look at the precent of people that
can get FIOS its usually on the east coast, Weast coast, Chicacgo, and Altanta big big cities.

Direct TV is virtually available anywhere, and with there recent annoucement off all these new
HD Channels, 360HD content to your living room. I dont know if they gave up on that IDEA,
but its still a very good one.

But if Microsoft BUYS YAHOO, they gain a super super Alliance with SBC, wich now has the name of ATT.
The company is still SBC alot of people thought ATT bought SBC, but SBC just bought the rights to the name.
Much like cingular.

So microsoft sorta becomes an ISP, and still can do a bunch of stuff that they are trying to do.
ATT just doesnt have DSL they also have WiMax, and FIOS. Will be interesting.
