More Details about Xecuter's RRoD Repair Kit and Price Drop
Posted by XanTium | February 14 22:09 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From team-xecuter.com:
[QUOTE]
Having working out the cost of this kit we can make it much cheaper.
1 Kit $9.95 each
10 Kits $8.95 each
50 Kits $6.95 each
100 Kits $5.95 each

Also some points need addressing.
1. This is not any kind of X-Clamp or washers or screws or thermal paste or anything like that. It's not rocket science and didn't take months of development - more like 10 minutes
2. This is not sold as a permanent fix. You want that then get a new Xbox. All I know is that its simple, easy to do with little fuss and works on the boxes I've tested so far. It's impossible to say how long it will last for - only people actually giving it a try will be able to answer that.
3. Yes you could probably make this kit yourself. All I have done is made the kit to an exact spec in an easy to use and cheap package.
4. Answer to a point made on xbox-scene

"the thing that strikes me funny about that whole thing is, "got my FIRST ROD at Christmas" followed immediately by "it's been tested on 18 now" - that's a pretty big leap in ROD consoles available to a guy in less than 2 months"
We're Xecuter bro, we're not sitting in our kitchen with a homebrew soldering iron and a ratchet set lol - as soon as I decided I wanted to test ROD machines I just put a few words out and they arrived daily. Think about it

I'll get these shipped out asap then you can try for yourselves.

i bet it is some kind of spacer you put between the center of the x clamp and the mobo so that the mobo is flat with the x clamp on

I'm not your "bro", you can pick your friends but not your family - and I don't have any friends that I haven't (to my knowledge) ever communicated with directly. And yeah, you missed my idea of "funny" in both respects.

I guess I should say though: fair enough, what I had to say wasn't backed up with any seeming thought at all the way you and likely most took it, so here goes (and the logistics still do not seem to work out in my mind in even this scenario, in which all 18 boxes piled in and back out in a matter of the days between xmas and new years; for all the info given, you could have gotten 17 of them in yesterday and rushed around to try your bit on them before posting this morning.)

During holidays you'd put together this kit (or a bunch of them), tracked down 18 ROD consoles with the specific/known error codes related to the common problem found with xclamp replacement/reflow candidates shipped priority to you to test this out on so you'd receive them before new years. Fixed them. Maybe got them back to whomever put their trust in you so they could actually be tested (presuming you didn't get any lots of them and had to do "let the disk run by itself and see if it's working later still" testing), and thus they have all seen 6 weeks (OK, make that 5... or even 4 to be reasonable) of actual regular monitored use making the fix to have proven itself at least somewhat sustainable/reasonable and the number 18 a substantiated fact to promote it as a worthwhile DiY repair attempt (regardless of whether you are in your kitchen, garage or bathroom jester.gif ) And that said testing has included a secondary tear down of an after-over-abused fixed machine (assume your own, that'd give you about 7 weeks lead) to seek possible further damages related to using these parts (to treat the symptoms) that may prohibit other methods like a reflow repair procedures from working, all before considering selling something to customers.

I did think about it to a small degree before typing anything and believe it or not I know what you all at Xecuter are capable of; contacts, a loyal fan base and customer's $$ do wondrous things (just ask M$ how many of their loyal customers are willing to overlook these problems and purchase another 360) - though I can honestly say I am equally unimpressed with M$'s QA procedures that creates this opportunity for you to "help" people in this fashion; where they'd use the end user to do that whole pesky term and quantity reliability testing bit for them (resulting in eventually revision 2 and 3 of the product leaving early adopters wondering why they didn't wait for the CE/SE to come.) That is what I find funny (in both humorous and odd contexts regarding the availabilty of RoD machines, nothing to do with the plausibility of actually getting them unless one assumes face value of the words is == retarded poster) - I mean, at least it's not a potential customer's $300 gadget that is at stake, now is it blink.gif

So yeah, that's a pretty big leap in ROD consoles available to a guy in less than 2 months. Unless you didn't test them, just got em to go and sent them out the door.

At any rate I sure hope it is something unique (and perhaps useful even when not installed, like a towel) so that some new insight can be said to have been gained - regardless of how I interpret the initial announcement (in my books skewed/shady) a solid accessible product will always speak for itself - and good luck to anyone trying any fix to recover their RoD'd machine, though hopefully you won't need the luck with the persistence of tinkerers around these parts happy.gif

Well with agreeing with some of your points I find it almost impossible to completely comprehend that post. Anyway, I find it questionable that Xecuter respond like this to people (potential customers) that have questions about a product that they don't quite know what it is. I think the best road they should have taken was to release the product then worry about what people are saying about it.

I do have a few friends that have a RROD that would be willing to pay for something cheap to fix. But if it is something that is questionable with what seems to me not enough disclosed testing measures then I would surely not get. Again this is just my opinion.

IMO, buying a new 360 with the updated hardware that's a ton less likely to get the RROD is the best choice. You don't have the mess around with a "fix", you don't have to worry about it failing, and you will have a MS warranty again (with a new console).

If this "fix" he is selling is 99% working and a permanent fix, then yeah, it's worth it. If it's not, which I doubt it is (no offense, Xecuter), just go buy a new 360. It'll suck taking that financial hit but after awhile it's no big deal.

I'm on my 3rd 360. After two RROD's I'm not going to mod this Elite 360 because I'm tired of having my 360 fail and it not being under warranty. So I just bit the bullet and took the plunge. I couldn't be happier about it.

All the RROD "fixes" out there I've tried and they get to be a hassel and cause a lot of stress and frusteration. And, of course, none of them are permanent fixes at all. It's nice having peace of mind with a brand new, under warranty, Xbox 360.

Maybe the kit really is just a new warranty sticker and phone # to Xbox customer support sleep.gif

More info wouldn't kill anyone. I'd say most people are too lazy to try and gather the parts on their own, so why keep this thing a secret? This whole thing sorta reminds me of the Paradox PS3 loader ("we has loader!!!1" followed by "to all you non-believers, this IS real" ...and then it wasn't).

Marketing?

If you ask me better marketing would be to release the plans for the fix as well as sell the kits because as soon as the kits come out people who don't want to pay for the kit or fixes several xboxes themselves will just run to lowes and pick up the things needed to make the kit themselves.

Xecuter has done a lot for the scene, but they've also been absent for a long time..

Team Xecuter: with all due respect, buy some good faith back from the scene by releasing the plans for free as well as selling the kits.

I don't think anyone has said this so I'm going to, sorry if someone already said it above and I missed it.
RRoD or 3RoD issues are gone, there should be no consoles outside of warranty, unless you opened you xbox360 for no particular reason (other then to pirate games or case modifications, which for the latter if you were smart you redid the cooling system too, anyone opening the case to pirate games deserves everything they get). The 360 launched end of 2005 that means all those consoles are still under warranty until the end of this year?
Had this kit came before Moore did the whole sorry here's 3 years of warranty and quit I'd be interested.
But anyone who purposely opened their xbox360 without first getting 3RoD probably put better cooling in the case so has side stepped the issue in any case.
