MS Blogger Breakfast: XNA Community, LIVE Downtime, Blu-ray, DRM-Issues

From thebitbag.com:
[QUOTE]
Just got back from Microsoft's Blogger Breakfast and it was a hoot! The smoked bacon was delicious! Several bloggers got to throw questions at Chris Satchell, Aaron Greenberg and John Schappert.

XNA Community Program
* Games are all unrated. No ESRB intervention
* There may be a possible file size increase in the future to accommodate game developers.
* Games probably won't be restricted by region.
* Game creators will retain all rights to their games.
* There will be no certification for XNA community developed games.
* No achievements for XNA community games
* Friends lists probably won't work on XNA community games. They are still working on it.

Xbox Live Downtime Over The Holidays
* Xbox Live outage due to overwhelming holiday response
* 1,000,000 concurrent users on before Super Bowl playing Madden
* 4,000,000 new Live Gold subscribers in 6 months

Xbox 360 Blu-Ray Player Possibilities
* Microsoft doesn't care about Blu-Ray at this time
* 3% attach rate for HD-DVD add-on

Red Ring Of Death Still An Issue?
* Failure rate has officially dropped
* Microsoft is working on the DRM issue with downloaded content
* DRM issue only affects those who don't have access to Live
* In the interim, Microsoft will refund ALL your MS Points to re-download your content

Has anyone had any success getting their points refunded by MS? If so, what do you say to the reps on the phone?

I called a few weeks ago about it and they said a supervisor had to switch over all my licenses and it could take awhile but they will call when it has been done. I am going away for the weekend and want to play all my Rock Bank songs with friends while we are away but I will be unable to at this point since there will be no internet. I would love to get my points refunded and rebuy the songs I got on my old system.

I believe it. I've gone through three systems since 05', but my newest halo edition console has been problem free for 8 months now. My launch system died within 2 weeks.

Really, did it drop 1% or 5%?

I've heard of nothing but hassles with the DRM issue. It's a royal pain in the ass to not be able to play games you've paid for.

8 months is nothing, especially if you keep it in the recommended type of environment. I repaired a lot of consoles last year for RRoD that were manufactured in 2005. Some take 2 weeks, some take 2 years, some may last longer than that.

In The Naked Gun when Lt. Frank Drebbin was asked if he gambled, he replied "every time I order fast food". Today, he could reply "every time I turn on my Xbox 360".

And my Elite I bought back in June died in 2 days. Anecdotal evidence doesn't really amount to much. Only thing that matters is whats printed in the media.

Well at lest they're working on the DRM thing. I called tech support a month or two back. They said they would refund my points after approval from a higher tier. They were supposed to call back within 20 days, well guess what, they never called back!

When i called in September for the DRM issue, they told me that a week before i called they changed the policy on the DRM re download. They were not giving points back. They would repair the drm. That was September, i still can't play my games, and its BS how they claim they will refund points to re download content. If its the policy they should keep it before I jam it someone's @$$. I did call my bank and am in the middle of disputing 85 dollars worth of MS points. If they won't fix it, i will get my money back for the games i can't play. I still keep buying games anyways.

the failure rate has decreased some with every iteration of the mobo development and also the overall consoles that are failing daily has decreased as well since the majority of the original 360s with defects have already failed.

now the major problem is what to do upon the return as far as with the failed mobos and that is why the recent article on the rumors of the newly developed mobos included one that would be a great substitute for the chips from the failed boards...
