Pachter: EU 360 price cut to boost sales 20 per cent
Posted by XanTium | March 10 12:56 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From gamesindustry.biz:
[QUOTE]
Following Microsoft's decision to drop the price of the Xbox 360 in Europe, analyst Michael Pachter has told GamesIndustry.biz that he expects sales to increase by around 20 per cent over the coming months.

However, in the long term, he doesn't see it making a larger impact to Microsoft's standing in the region, as Sony is also likely to cut the price of the PlayStation 3 at some point later this year.

He also echoed comments made to GamesIndustry.biz by The simExchange's Jesse Divnich, that the timing of Microsoft's price cut is partly due to the failure of the HD-DVD format, and consumer perception that the PlayStation 3 now seems a better value machine with its integrated Blu-ray technology.

I think If MS dont release an external or built in Blu-ray player MS will lose, normal people will want cheap Hi-def player these days and currently PS3 is the only gaminng machine to offer that. So guess the result, me in the other hand dont give a shit. I did not buy HD-DVD and will not buy Blu-ray, 360 is my gaming console and PC is my HD streaming machine.

The only people that would buy an external blu-ray player will be the people that don't own a PS3 but already have a 360.

Kinda stating the obvious there tongue.gif
(it's an external Blu-Ray drive, not a player)

I would guess that they do the same as they did with HD DVD. That means that the drive would work with at least Windows Vista, but yeah, only people with a Xbox 360 would buy one, since it would be marketed as a Xbox 360 addon.

Previously, on Michael Pachter's predictions:
  • A price cut will not help drive Xbox 360 sales
  • Xbox 360 will get a new SKU with a 500GB HDD
  • Sony will win this generation, Nintendo will fail
  • Nobody will play World of Warcraft

Patcher will make up a prediction and change it if his old one doesn't work out. Go figure. rolleyes.gif

The price drops will help, but MS really needs a new model.

"Elite" isn't really a fair description of something carrying an optical drive from 1996 and no wireless capability and a relatively small hard drive.

The 360 is starting to look a little dated now, and overpriced for the feature set.

It still owns totally on the games front, but that may start to change this year.

Still, if my current one dies, and they make the 360 cheap enough, it might warrant me buying another one, but at the moment I would be sorely tempted to sell up and get a PS3 if the 360 fails on me again.

Games matter the most and that of course is where the 360 is. But I would like to see a Ultimate with Blu-Ray, DVB-T tuner, 250GB HDD, Wireless biggrin.gif

I would settle for a add-on.

I think they mean that if MS normally "sells"(you know what I mean) I donīt know... 10.000 xbox 360s a day, after the price cut they instead may be "selling" 12.000. wink.gif
