look at the close up picture...

first of all it's not a flat black like the elite, it's actually a smooth gloss black like a PS3

second it's not a sticker, it looks like the same plastic dye treatment that official faceplates get.

isn't it obvious? they're sending these out to game journalists just like they did with halo 3 LEs and swag.

It's basically a bribe for a good score by getting the journalists "excited" about the title.
