Wii to Outsell PS3 and Xbox 360 Combined in '08
Posted by XanTium | April 3 19:33 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From gamedaily.com:
[QUOTE]
With the Wii consistently selling out as soon as it hits store shelves, and the DS continuing to sell like hotcakes, 2007 was definitely Nintendo's year. According to Daniel Ernst of Hudson Square Research, that momentum will carry Mario and co. right through 2008 as well.

For fiscal year 2008 (which ended this March), Sony sold 9 million PS3 units globally, Microsoft sold 9.5 million Xbox 360s and Nintendo sold 18.5 million Wiis. For fiscal year 2009 (ending next March), Ernst forecasts that Microsoft will sell 11.2 million units of the Xbox 360 worldwide, Sony will sell 12.5 million PS3s and Nintendo will sell 23 million Wiis.

Good for Nintendo, however, my question is what will Nintendo do for next generation? They surely won't be able to play this game with far superior graphics against them.

or perhaps m$ and Sony will think twice about building a system that prices them out of the market for most people... Then perhaps they will think twice about adding $10 to the price of games.

i usually dont comment news, but in the case of this ill make an exception

yes now the wii will be able to prove itself as a unique system, and yes i will buy it
however, the next gen will have a higher par as most if not all americans will own HDTVs whereas now most people play their $250 wii on their $200 EDTV tube and dont even buy games cause the sports thing is enough for the occasional party or workout

oh ya, wtf is wrong with em

its been a long time make some more dogone systems how the heck is the wii still sold out yet outselling everybody else

Whenever the Wii gets an upgrade to at least 720p is when I'll go nuts looking for it. I don't want something with jagged edges; that's why I'd rather use an upscaling emu on my xbox than hook up one of the systems it's emulating.

It's not that the Wii looks horrible, I just hate how 480 stuff looks on my TV. I'm still puzzled as to why they didn't put a scaler on the board to allow higher resolutions; Xbox did 720p and 1080i and came out years earlier. Would it have been *that* much more expensive to do it?

I still *kinda* want it, but the Wii is the first Nintendo console I considered NOT buying, due to the lack of HD resolutions and games I find appealing (all the ones I like I can play on my 360, except for Zelda... it's always Zelda...)

I disagree.

I think people would like both....Wii sytle gameplay (for SOME games, not all) and yet still have the power of the 360 & PS3.

Which of course all 3 will have for their next generation of consoles.

I also disagree with the article, I do think the PS3 will outsell the 360 in fiscal 09, but not by much. and I think the Wii will be a few million above them (not combines though).

my guestimate: 360 - 11.7 million
PS3 - 12.9 million
Wii - 15.1 million

They will all sell good.

BTW, I wish Everybody would stop calling these consoles "Next Gen", they are "Current Gen", Next Gen would be refering to the new consoles selling in 2011.

If your TV has a built-in upscaler it makes it look nicer at least. Who knows if there are software hacks to get it to do higher resolutions, but it may not be worth it. As for what it can do, I'm sure there's more people can do with the graphics, look at what Factor 5 did on the Cube, and the Wii is at least more powerful than the XBox, but I don't think developers are showing that yet. They haven't really had that much development time since they were focusing on the 360 and PS3, expecting one of them to come out on top and building their games to work on both but not the Wii.

nothing can be done to make it look decent at all on a 96'' 720p projector.

so nintendo sells a lot of consoles but nobody that buys them buys any games so developers that pay attention will still make 360 priority #1 because we actually buy and play games.

My question is how do they expect to outsell PS3 and xbox when they are only making 1.5 million per month? By their OWN math the combined sales are almost a million more per quarter. And since Nintendo isnt increasing production it looks like the Nintentards in charge will miss the third straight christmas rush and by then we'll start hearing more about the next gens. I would love to get a wii. But I refuse to wait in line to give someone money. Hopefully someone at Nintendo gets fired over this fiasco.

if no one's buying any games then the developers will stop making games, but it looks like there are more wii games coming out then 360 and ps3 games.
the way its going there will be more wii game then 360 games by the end of the year

did someone get paid to do this research? old news. if there were more wiis in stock, the sales would crush that of ps3 and 360. the ps3 and 360 appeal to a lot of gamers who want high def graphics and online play. but there is a larger percentage of people out there who are very satisfied with the games that the wii has. i personally have seen families and people who were never gamers, all playing wiis.
the only thing holding the wii back is the shortage of supply. im not a wii fanboy. i dont own one *yet. but from what ive seen and read, the cheap $250 wii couldve been very far ahead of the competition this whole time if they were on the store shelves.
