BBC: MS wanted to 'control' streaming video
Posted by XanTium | April 10 23:30 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From joystiq.com:
[QUOTE]
A day after the BBC announced a version of its iPlayer streaming video service for the Wii, an obvious follow-up question arises: "Why isn't a similar service available for the PS3 and Xbox 360 as well?" A partial answer from BBC Future and Technology Group Coordinator Erik Huggers, who said in a BBC's dot.life blog that Sony and Microsoft weren't willing to open up their infrastructures to the iPlayer. "If you want to get on the PlayStation or Xbox, they want control of the look, the feel and the experience; they want it done within their shop, and their shop only," Huggers said.

Well.. duh? They've worked hard to create a consistent look and feel, of course they want to preserve it.

Agreed. I really dislike how the title of this news article is "MS wants to 'control' streaming video". It makes it sound as if they want to be some kind of monopoly in this area when all they want is to maintain the integrity of their creation by having complete control over it.

I don't care what it looks like as long as the player and content remain free. If it costs me any money i will continue to use my pc with iplayer.

The download manager for I player won't run on on my PC. Full of script errors. No wonder Sony & MS won't play ball. Shame as well cause I wanted to download Holby Blue

SunJava vs. MSJava Script Fight!

They lost the dedicated player fight with DLC built in and they will probably loose this one too.
Sony wont play ball with MS because Sony and Sun are aligned.

Sun is way ahead of this game, they have been waiting for IPTV and DLC for a very long time.
So way are they going to let MSJava in.

MS is the underdog in this fight.
