Pachter: PS3 Outsold 360 in March
Posted by XanTium | April 14 17:34 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From next-gen.biz:
[QUOTE]
PlayStation 3 outsold Xbox 360 for the third month in a row, but the Nintendo Wii overshot the combined sales of its rivals, according to Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter.

Ahead of March's NPD Group sales data, due to release this Thursday, Pachter forecast PS3 sales of 365,000 units, edging out sales of 310,000 for Xbox 360.
In a Monday investor note, Pachter predicted that Nintendo will come out on top for yet another month, with Wii sales of 700,000 during March's five-week retail period.

according to nextgenwars.com the 360 is almost double the PS3 it total sales. Anyway this just means we may see deals from both sides of the table, which is overall good. Still skeptical of how Nintendo will fare with their next console. They can't manage to reinvent the wheel again, can they?

If the figures are correct, I can't see Ms being overjoyed at this.
They cut the prices in Europe so it will be interesting to compare the European figures for each with these

it only makes sense this is starting to happen.

people who want 360's have one, which is why sales will be slipping, people are also realising that the ps3 is a good games console as well as a good blu-ray player, hence the upped sales.

a good move for sony would be a white verson (if only so i can buy one)

Aint been on my 360 much giving it a breather for GTA, ill be on summer holidays when it comes out, no preorder but ill be camping outside of Game before the store opens cool.gif

MS needs to drop the price. They have only dropped it once in a 2.5 year period (USA).

Not a big surprise here. Its already been said, but its true. People that want a 360, already have one. Expect sales to spike this holiday season with Gears 2 and a price cut. Until then, the PS3 will slowly gain ground.

like everyone else has been saying - this is expected - with MS's one year lead with more market saturation - heck the 360 has still outsold the PS3 2:1 worldwide (18 mil vs 9 mil). but read into the news what you will. that dang wii is still doing well which is impressive - but it is still just 3 mil ahead of the 360...

as usual - if you enjoy what you are playing on, then these numbers are just that...numbers...back to playing some games for now...

Yup, I predicted this, as did many...

I currently have 5 plasmas between 50"-62", 3 360's, and 2 standalone DVD players.

I'm ready to make the move to Blu-Ray, and since the PS3 is the best Blu-Ray player (due to upgradable firmware), I'm going to be purchasing a few PS3s this year.

Only drawback to the PS3 as a Blu-Ray player from what I am told, is that you can't turn the player on/off via IR code (because the on/off button is a heat-sensitive button).

So not only is Microsoft losing my future business, Sony is gaining it, and if I can play the same game on a PS3 as on the 360, I may as well buy the PS3 version.

And if that's the case, I can get rid of my current 360s (gifting to my nephews or something), because I believe that less hardware in my house is better.

Only reasons for one to choose or keep the 360 is (a) feedback controllers, (b) Xbox Live (which I don't subscribe to), and © exclusive titles like Halo 3.

Looking at the numbers using the above scenario.
Sony sells me three new PS3's
Microsoft doesn't sell me three new Xbox 360's with internal Blu-Ray
Microsoft doesn't sell my nephews three 360's since I will give them mine.

It is now obvious why Sony had to win the Blu-Ray HD-DVD format war. By winning the format war, they also won the console war (at least against Microsoft).

i don't get why this would be news

the 360 has been out for a year longer than the ps3 and is millions ahead in sales... it seems only logical that the sales now are people being sold on the solid games and internet service the 360 provides... because its almost matching the ps3 it just shows what an overpriced 'game' console or blue ray player it is

Market saturation? What market is that where 18 million units worldwide is market saturation?

The PS2 has sold over 120 million consoles worldwide, and it STILL outsells the PS3 and the Xbox 360. None of the next gen consoles are anywhere near 'market saturation', and the race is far from decided for any console. Microsoft needs to do something to stimulate sales - and soon. GTA IV will benefit the PS3 more than it will the 360, and MGS4 is going to lead to a huge boost in sales as well.

I can't fathom that Microsoft will simply sit and let that happen, so expect them to DRASTICALLY improve the value of all of the models over the next couple of months.
