Posted by XanTium | April 17 05:49 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From eurogamer.net:
[QUOTE]
Microsoft has revealed that Xbox 360 sales have doubled in Europe since it cut the price of the console on 14th March. Well done self, it said.

The platform holder reckons its console is number one in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, as it owns 42 per cent of the market in terms of life-to-date sales.

I think that 200€ for the console is a great price, comparing the 400€ for the PS3 (i don't have that kind of money, ok, i have the money but don't want to spend it on a console), but I prefer to wait for the 65 nm model.

hhmmm... why i don't belive M$. ah yes, because they always lie to their customers. grr.gif

but lets check the numbers for europe...

09.03.08 -> 27'198 x360 sold
23.03.08 -> 66'966 x360 sold (yes, that's more then 100%)
13.04.08 -> 43'500 x360 sold (why it's coming down)

and i would bet my @ss the number are still coming down. so what has been doubled if you can't hold it?

if we follow the logic of M$ this would mean: PS3 sales have doubled in Europe

why?

09.03.08 -> 68'395 ps3 sold
30.03.08 -> 132'335 ps3 sold (oh, almost 100%)
13.04.08 -> 82'069 ps3 sold

so the real news should be: M$ could increase sells in europe, but so did söny.
söny still sells more then M$ does. only nintendog is outselling both, also if the ps3 was better sold then the wii around the end of march.

so what to do with M$ press release: just print it out and you can wipe your bottom for free... may you will also get some achievements.

ps: and no, idon't have a ps3 or wii, just a 360... no fanboy here

i really don't know about the other countries, but here in germany i'v never even seen anyone taking a ps3 out of a shop. there's also like no advertising at all.

i think most ps3s in germany are beeing "sold" as a giveaway with mobile phone contracts.

check ebay.de and you'll find plenty of those.

10 €/month on a 24-months plan, cheap mobile phone included, plus a ps3 for free.

and i know about at least 4 people who actually bought a 360 last month.

I remember back when MS announced the price cut the analysts said "Expect a 20% increase in sales". WRONG! These analysts with all their predictions are about as meaningful as climate predictions. No one listens to these sages anymore.

Where is the link to back up those #'s? You start your post by saying:
"hhmmm... why i don't belive M$. ah yes, because they always lie to their customers. "

You go on and try to debunk M$'s claims and then you end it with a disclaimer:
"ps: and no, idon't have a ps3 or wii, just a 360... no fanboy here"

Yea right dry.gif

From Gamasutra:
"Microsoft has offered no sales figures to quantify the reported sales increase, but has suggested that the Xbox 360 is currently the number one next generation console in EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) with 42 percent of the market in terms of life-to-date revenues.

The Xbox 360 also has the highest software attach rate of any console in Europe, with 7.0 games being sold per console. According to Microsoft’s own figures, this compares to 3.8 for the PlayStation 3 and 3.5 for the Wii.

However, with no regularly released independent sales data available in any of the major European countries, Microsoft’s figures are impossible to verify or compare with other existing figures for competing formats.

Gamasutra article

Nice attach rate but how do you justify releasing this PR BS with no sales figures??? Sort of like George Bush declaring the "The war in Iraq is over" 4 years ago.

"Microsoft has revealed that Xbox 360 sales have doubled in Europe since it cut the price"

True or not, let's use this info to push for a price cut everywhere else. Preferably before May 15th.

Or maybe they can cut the price in Europe again so they can say it quadrupled.

You can actually get the numbers from vgchartz.com, and those numbers are pretty accurate. If you didn't know, the PS3 thoroughly outsells the 360 outside of America (assuming North and South). Even including the Americas, the PS3 is outselling the 360 so far this year:
QUOTE("vgchartz")
World total ending 4/12/08
PS3 - 2,949,300
X360 - 2,139,096

And 360dude, despite your anecdotal evidence, the PS3 is outselling the 360 in Germany by almost 2 to 1 so far this year.
QUOTE("vgchartz")
Germany ending 4/12/08
PS3 - 101,408
X360 - 55,085

There are some of us here that have 360s but aren't biased fanboys. Try not to get defensive just because people make posts that go against MS or the 360.

So the press release is true in that MS did double their sales in Europe. Problem is, so did Sony, and they sold many more.

nah, don't want to. i'm just wondering where all the ps3s are wink.gif
i'm actually planning on getting myself one because i REALLY wanna play GT5:P, have played through all the gran turismo titles so far, including prologues and stuff. it's just that i know quite a few gamers in person and i haven't met any with a ps3 so far, most of them have 360s and quite a few got a wii too (don't need one myself, girlfriend already owns one). maybe it's really that people are buying the ps3 mostly for blu-ray playing, that's obviously another target group than the people i know.

I don't know why they say "Well done self", the sales increase after the price drop only indicates the Xbox 360 price in Europe was way too high previously.
