Xbox 360 Kiosks Bring Games and Entertainment to Children's Hospitals
Posted by XanTium | April 23 14:50 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From the press release:
[QUOTE]
Microsoft Corp. today announced a new partnership with the Companions in Courage Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting children and families who are overcoming life-threatening obstacles. As part of its commitment to providing fun, interactive entertainment for children, Microsoft is supplying hundreds of Xbox 360 game kiosks to playrooms in children's hospitals across the United States, intended to provide a respite for young patients and be a catalyst for fun. In addition to select games, movies and television content, the Xbox 360 kiosks will provide access to a private network that allows hospitalized children across the country to play games and chat in a safety-enhanced environment over Xbox LIVE, the world's largest social network connected to television.

Microsoft is celebrating this partnership and the installation of the first wave of kiosks with three simultaneous events today at Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital of New York-Presbyterian, Children's Hospital & Regional Medical Center of Seattle and the Children's Hospital of Orange County in California. Robbie Bach, president of the Entertainment and Devices Division at Microsoft, will attend the Seattle event to commemorate the first group of Xbox 360 kiosks and the launch of the special Xbox LIVE network.

CRAP! I wanted to say that first!

All 360's are born with lung cancer, and will inevitably die, unless they are lucky.
I guess Microsoft is trying to drive it home now huh?

(BTW: Don't say I'm a jerk, trust me I'm not trying to be, my dad has leukemia for god sakes)

I work in a pediatric hospital. Right now the kids have N64's and older game cubes to play games on (and not very many of those). This would be very nice.
It becomes a long day being stuck in a hospital for a week or longer. Video games are at least interactive (as opposed to TV or movies) for a kid stuck in a bed because they have end stage lung disease and are on a ventilator waiting on a lung transplant.
And if the 360's die? At least they can be replaced, hopefully at no cost. But even a few days would be better than nothing.
I haven't heard of Nintendo or Sony doing this. So give some points to Microsoft.

And as far as the 360's dying, I believe it is divine punishment for those of you who lead wicked lives. Myself and 3 of my friends all have 360's bought in November 2005 and no problems yet. Must be karma for those who sin. biggrin.gif

Hello Fellow Gamers. I agree 100%. These guys are making wise cracks @ something very serious mad.gif . I commend them (M$) for making an effort. What're Sony & Nintendo doing besides trying to promote video games? RROD jokes. Is that the BEST you can come up with? How about, M$ is making life a little enjoyable for kids. They also get their very own Live Network that's isolated (thank GOD) cool.gif from these crazy fools.

Don't worry about the Cost of replacing the X360. They all come with a 3yr. Warranty.
BTW - My X360 has been running since 2005. smile.gif

I was with you 100% until you brought up the karma/sin thing. I can't wait to see what you have to say when your xbox finally RRoDs...

You obviously don't have a sense of humor. I suggest watching Adult Swim and/or smoking something green.

I'll say "Oh crap, I knew I should have let that other driver over on the expressway"
But seriously, looking at the 360 failure rate, various "experts' on the web have stated it may be as high as 20-30%. That still leaves 70% which have not failed. So I guess it only affects the really sinful. biggrin.gif

I'd take an RRod over a PS3 anyway. Also I believe the xboxs are getting better. I went through 3 the first year, my 4th which is the first elite I bought (and only) has been holding strong and I am pretty sure ive been playing it a lot more then the first 3. Cant seem to get enough Halo. I am considering grinding up the actual game disk and injecting it directly into my blood stream.

I know where he's coming from, but the joke was obviously about how the 360s die easily, so it's kinda funny to give dying kids dying electronics, if you can remove all seriousness from the equation. I suggested 'Adult Swim' as they have that type of sense of humor.

So are these 360s wireless-less? After all, M$ wouldn't want their wireless signal messing with the hospital's machines like mobile phones do, would they?
