I'm new. I was soft modding an xbox for a friend. I got done. I was ftping stuff to it when my cd tower fell on the hard drive. The hdd is dead. My xbox hdd was upgraded. How Can I use my old Hdd with my friend's xbox? (it's been formatted and unlocked) BTW I backed up his hard drive in it's unmodded form over ftp.

If you have his eeprom you could use XboxHDM to make the new drive.

XboxHDM should build the partition table for you.

Yeah you gotta get XboxHDM from "The usual place"
Once you have Xboxhdm
You put his C:drive files into the C folder then put the eeprom.bin file into the eeprom folder hit Make.iso.win or what ever it is. It wil creat a ISO burn it to a disk.

Hook the hard drive you want to make work with the xbox up to the master ide cable in your PC leave the pc hard drive unhooked.

put Xboxhdm into the cd drive and boot your pc from the cd drive.

Select option 1 or 2 then type xboxhd

Now just select the option to create xbox hard drive from scratch I think it 1.

Once your done making the hard drive you need to reboot xboxhdm and select option 3 to lock the hd.

Type in lockhd -a and it should lock it.

now its ready to go in the xbox and be softmodded.

How "dead" is the HDD? What does it do when you try to boot off it?

Those things are fairly robust. For example, when trying to salvage data off a drive that had taken on the "click of death", I was able to make the system boot by... bashing the drive against a desk as hard as I could.

"Still clicking?" BANGBANGBANG

"I'll teach you to click, you @#$$@#!!" BANGBANG

"Oh, that fixed it." smile.gif

I wouldn't think that having some furniture topple onto a drive would cause issues. blink.gif

Don't laugh... I once froze my dead xbox hdd in the freezer after reading about that technique of reviving dead drives and ... it stayed dead. I bit the bullet and built the eeprom reader.
