Activision CEO: Slowing economy may lead to console price cuts
Posted by XanTium | April 30 23:27 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From gamesindustry.biz:
[QUOTE]
The slowing US economy will pressure makers of video game consoles to lower their prices said Activision CEO Bobby Kotick.

"With the rising costs of fuel and food and housing, it is more difficult to go out and buy a USD 399 console, and I think it's going to put pressure on the console manufacturers to reduce their prices," Kotick told Reuters.

Maybe games companies like activision should consider dropping prices of their games too?
£50 rrp for a game is taking the piss imo. Fair enough, I usually buy online so games usually cost £30 - £40, but theres plenty of schlubs out there that pay full price in the shops.
As enjoyable as it is, console gaming is a rip-off, especially here in the UK... grr.gif

Truth. If games were $40 instead of $60 I'd probably end up buying twice as many. It's really in their best interests.

Let's hope this is the case. A US price drop and I'll "jump in" for sure.

i really dont see the state of the US economy brining down the price of consoles. i havnt seen any of these companys care about a countries economy while determining there price range and i dont see them starting now

games are so high priced due to developer costs. games are really hitting the multi million dollar marks to develop, there getting just as costly as making movies. but there is a smaller user base for console games which means they have to raise the price to make up the difference. online stores will always sell things cheaper due to taxes and by cutting out the middle man (online stores do not have that much staff, so they dont pay as much salary which means they can afford to lower prices and still gain profit)

Woah 50 pounds for a game is insane!!! that would cost $$100 usa money.

here games cost $50-60 in the usa and thats just the standard but still its really expensive and cuts into your living expenses.
