I previously had an xbox with a Benq drive, and i flashed it with an invalid key, then junked it; my bad. I recently purchased a new one with the release of GTA, however it was used, once again I got the Benq. I am going to flash it soon, but i want to make sure all is well.
In my previous flash i had a problem having firmtool run in DOS. It would read the disc drive and then just sit there after Datasum. Firmtool would not automatically run, and i made the mistake of going straight to fben, yes i know i am a retard, it was my first time. Any ideas on what was wrong and why my firmtool wouldnt automatically run? My understanding is that after a read you should boot into windows, check the .bin in firmtool, make sure the key is correct and make a few backups. Is this correct?
Basically if my firmtool does not automatically run it is safe to do it manually in windows and still trust i wont write an invalid key to my drive? ill kill myself if i brick another drive...
I am running a VIA chipset, Benq drive, and Ms-Dos from a CDR.
When i go into iprep i choose to write 12x ixtreme to my partitioned segment of the hardrive, about 20mbs, and create the msdos boot. Should i check the MTKpatch?
Thats about it, anything i am doing wrong, or anything i can do better would be greats suggestions. I consider myself at a beginner level, yes?
Also i forgot to mention where would iprep store the copy of the firmware? Would it go the iprep/firware folder in my partition? Not positive on the file name...
Just tryin to be 100%
