MS: 360 GTA IV Outselling PS3 Version 2-to-1
Posted by XanTium | May 1 23:51 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From next-gen.biz:
[QUOTE]
Microsoft tells Next-Gen that the Xbox 360 version of Grand Theft Auto IV is outselling the PlayStation 3 version by a wide margin in the US, but Sony questions Microsoft's claims.

"What we've heard anecdotally from our retail partners is that the Xbox 360 version of the game is outselling the PS3 version by a margin of two-to-one," said Aaron Greenberg, director of product management for Xbox 360 and Xbox Live during an interview Thursday.

But a SCEA rep questioned Microsoft's findings, saying that Microsoft's two-to-one ratio "doesn't line up" with what Sony has been hearing from its retailers. The rep declined to say exactly what Sony has been hearing from its retail partners until more concrete data can be compiled.

Not anymore. Hopefully the series will stay multiplatform now.

I have both consoles and I bought the 360 version due to the online play. I figured that Live would be better at handling the load of online and it seems the PSN is under a strain right now.
But most folks have one console or the other. I imagine the install base for the 360 is larger. And some folks did buy the PS3 for the blu-ray player only.

That era is long gone. Prior to this best GTA was on Xbox Original (I personally found it to handle it better).

the 2:1 ratio makes sense since the console sales total 2:1 right now, i reckon the figures would be more 1:1 if sony had sold as many ps3's as MS has sold 360's. simple math really.

that association is long long gone, way way before now, you need to come out from under that rock.

I also have both consoles. I got the Xbox 360 Elite and the 80gb PS3. I only use the PS3 for Blu-ray and that's no exaggeration. I *never* game on the PS3. I bought the 360 version too and for two reasons:

1. Online play. XBL is miles ahead of any competitior when it comes to online gaming so I always buy the 360 version.

2. Controller. I hate the PS3 controller. It has never felt good to me for any games, especially first & third person shooters. Plus it feels so cheap and generic.

2 to 1 ratio? That's it?
I would expect the 360 to have more sales than the PS3 since there are more 360 users/owners than PS3.
As for PS3/360 user install base numbers vs GTA4 sales, I think the PS3 did pretty damn well.

Lol, that's how I feel about the 360... reminds me so much of the Dreamcast controllers.

According to my own little survey it's more like 3-1 but there were only 4 people. and according to the xs poll it's 368-35 at this moment but it is XBOX-scene.

In the long run I do want to get GTAIV for the PS3 just to compare but my main console will stay the 360.

Id have to agree that the xbox version has sold twice as many copies at the ps3 version. I work in the electronics department at sears and all of our copies of gta for the xbox has sold out and we have only sold like one or two copies of the ps3.

PS3-Scene is also apart of Xbox-Scene, so its not just all about Xbox360.

i think the close sales considering the user base is due to a lack of knowledge about the 360 version. alot of people beleive this is a PS3 game.

Really? I've never run across anyone who thought that, online or in life.

it's a win win either way you look at it. And game developers/publishers are only going to smile that there are two consoles now that can sell games! I mean if the ps3 finally catches on as a gaming console then it is only good for us the gamer/consumer. I love the battle of the consoles and I hope it stays strong and long! much better than one withering away and dieing. It's just silly to compare sells ratio or attach rate unless there becomes a much wider discrepency then 2:1. Take-Two and Rockstar are smiling all the way to the bank.

Yes, but the only people I notice active in the PS3 forums besides myself are Chancer & Bucko. An active day for the PS3 forums gets 1 post per-sub forum, whereas the 360 forums tend to get at least 10 active topics in more than half the forums, daily.

The majority of people who are aware of the ps3-scene portion are x-s members who don't even like the PS3 (when someone comes to the PS3 forums and bashes it, it's like 'black on black' crime, or rather, x-s on x-s crime smile.gif )
