Microsoft Withdraws Proposal to Acquire Yahoo!
Posted by XanTium | May 4 00:42 EST | News Category: GamingGeneral

From microsoft.com:
[QUOTE]
Microsoft Corp. today announced that it has withdrawn its proposal to acquire Yahoo! Inc.

"We continue to believe that our proposed acquisition made sense for Microsoft, Yahoo! and the market as a whole. Our goal in pursuing a combination with Yahoo! was to provide greater choice and innovation in the marketplace and create real value for our respective stockholders and employees," said Steve Ballmer, chief executive officer of Microsoft.

"Despite our best efforts, including raising our bid by roughly $5 billion, Yahoo! has not moved toward accepting our offer. After careful consideration, we believe the economics demanded by Yahoo! do not make sense for us, and it is in the best interests of Microsoft stockholders, employees and other stakeholders to withdraw our proposal," said Ballmer.

"We have a talented team in place and a compelling plan to grow our business through innovative new services and strategic transactions with other business partners. While Yahoo! would have accelerated our strategy, I am confident that we can continue to move forward toward our goals," Ballmer said.

"We are investing heavily in new tools and Web experiences, we have dramatically improved our search performance and advertiser satisfaction, and we will continue to build our scale through organic growth and partnerships," said Kevin Johnson, Microsoft president for platforms and services.

Dude, it goes way beyond that. Anyway, good for M$. I just can't believe Yahoo! thinks it is worth more than what they were offered. I can't wait for Monday to see their stock fall faster than a sack of potatoes,
then they'll see how much they are worth.

What an idiot. It was never about money. No one in Silicon Valley wants to see Yahoo sell to Microsoft. Yahoo represents the beginning of the Internet today and set the standard of all those "free" service you take for grant.

I was a "little" surprised reading this, but it wasn't totally unexpected. If anyone has any Yahoo stocks, it would be good to get rid of it before it tanks to "possible" record lows. ohmy.gif No joke guys! Get rid of it!

Google also played a hand in this. Good read for anyone interested.

Excuse me?? You are calling me an idiot because I (I'm not the only one) think Yahoo! was asking
more than it is obviously worth?. Do YOU honestly believe they are worth the nearly 48 billion M$
was willing to pay much less the 52 billion they were asking for???
Am I an idiot for stating the obvious that come Monday Yahoo!'s stock is going to plunge??

Times change, Yahoo! has been on a downward spiral for years and they are not nearly as influential.
They will eventually go down in history with Excite and Infoseek.

Yahoo was asking more than it's worth, they had the right to. It was an unsolicited offer. If someone walks up to me and asks to buy my car, I'm not going to lay down a bargain price.

The only reason Yahoo stock would drop is from the vultures that saw blood with the deal. It won't hurt Yahoo too badly. And if you think Microsoft stock won't dip too, you're wrong.

I'm glad that Yahoo will stay independant.. One less ultra-mega corporation dictating what we use, play, watch and eat.

I'm sure if someone walked up to you and offered almost double what your car was actually worth you would seriously consider it. You'd be stupid to not take it.

There was nothing bargain about the $48 Billion Microsoft was offering Yahoo. Yahoo was stupid

Yahoo is just stupid. Soon they will be worthless and broke and wonder why they are in the food lines at the homeless shelters. They should have taken the cash and ran with it. I mean jezz who really uses yahoo? Whats funny about it all is when the stock plummets then good ole M$ buys it all for a buck a share or something crazy smile.gif That would be sooo amazingly funny. If not bye bye yahoo. But my question is...will anyone miss them? Hell I have a yahoo email account and never use it and dont remember the last time I actually used the search engine. Hmmmm maybe 5 - 6 years ago if that? Jeez I though excite was better than yahoo smile.gif

not always true. example i had a little ford festiva i only payed 100 bucks for it at a auction. some guy realy wanted this car being it was a little gas effent car of course i knew this and i didn't wanna sell it in the end thow he finnly made a offer that i took and it would up being 10x what the car was worth. did eyther of us get a bad deal no i sold my car for far more then i payed for it and he got the car he wanted. sure he probably could have bought another car but that not hat he wanted for less. but he wanted that car

now where talking m$ you talk of blood m$ smelt it with yahoo and started circling. they just happen to be the biggest bird.

the problem with yahoo is the fact there just not doing anything new. and the things they do have are so bug ridden packed full of ads and full of bots that none wants to use them anymore. yahoo as a company needs to get there act together.

its still nice to see m$ throw money at something and fail.

Your example is fine, but you we're dealing with billion of dollar here. $100x10 is only $1000 which is expendable. When you have to spend billions of dollar it is like spending your whole life saving. The scenario is different.
