Microsoft denies Blu-ray rumors, again
Posted by XanTium | May 5 17:46 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From gamepro.com:
[QUOTE]
"As we have stated, we have no plans to introduce a Blu-ray drive for Xbox 360," said a Microsoft official in an email to GamePro on Monday. "Games are what drive consumers to purchase game consoles, and we remain focused on providing the largest library of blockbuster games available."

On Friday, the Economic Daily News (via Digitimes) reported that Pegatron Technology has secured an order from Microsoft to manufacture Xbox 360 models with internal Blu-ray drives for release this fall.

I guess they would be denying it so that they can sell off all their old inventory first instead of having people waiting for the new ones.

Dude, stop with the bullshit.

How many different ways do you want Microsoft to say, NO BLU-RAY FOR THE XBOX 360?

MS$ usually says "we have no comment" when there is truth to a story. When they deny it like this I can't think of a single case where it ended up being true...

"Games are what drives consumers", we have already hit the point where they cant fit anymore game data on a dvd, Sony can! Most games are cross platform and limited somewhat to the lowest common denominator, but one could assume that a ps3 exclusive game could potentially be better in future because of Blue-Ray.

I'm glad Microsoft thinks a Blu-Ray drive isn't important. I'm in the market for one, and guess what, looks like I'll get a PS3...not because I want to play games on it (i'll use my 360 for that) but so I can watch movies. But sometime down the line..I'm going to buy a game or two....just because I can..and where will that lead me? Hmm, now I'm gaming on a PS3...

If they had a 360 with Blu-ray, I'd buy it and sell my old one..but they don't.

MS will not ever allow games to be released on Blu-ray discs for the Xbox 360, even if a drive is released in the future. It simply will not happen.

i've worked in so many different type of industries i can say that in all of them in their depts', from manufacturing, to selling, to computers, to you name it, most of the time the problem is always the same problem everywhere, "Communication" odds are the guy writing to "Gamepro" doesn't have a freakin' clue as to whats going on with the xbox's, he probably either doesnt know, or hasnt' been told , isn't a high enough up employee to be privilged to that sort of information. so he quotes that same old dribble. i mean what guy in the communications/public awareness dept needs to know that 8 months from now a new system will come out, he doesnt' need to know that, it would just confuse the consumer if someone was saying that.... my guess is, its coming- but this guy doesnt know it.

actually i think pretty much everyone here has gotten it wrong so far. IMHO it boils down to a bunch of accountants and actuarials at MS saying they can or can not make more $$$ from blu. if they believe it will bring them that extra cash and would be worth the investment i can guarantee blu will be there. if they determine it to be a loss in the end it will not happen.

Now that is my kind of logic. I don't want a PS3 for games, but I do want a blu-ray player. I dont buy DVDs anymore, just blu-rays.

My PC is the primary player but I like the simplicity of a plug in and play that a console/standalone offers.

1. Why bother to post if you don't have a 360?

2. Regardless that it was the first time YOU said it, it's been being repeated over and over since HD-DVD died. I'm sick of hearing it too.

Sorry people, you can't wish it or rumor it into reality. MS has denied things before that come to be truth but logically they should have been true. Logically, MS doesn't stand to gain a lot from making a Blu-ray drive for this generation of their game console. Wait for the 360's successor.

seriously, a guy makes an opinion post on a DISCUSSION forum and you both respond with complete rude insanity? grow up and learn to live in a world with many opinions besides your own.

on topic now. it will be interesting to see how this "rumor" pans out...with an already large user installed base, releasing an internal blu-ray now might not make much sense but i guess it depends how many they think that could be sold...and whether that decision could benefit them for future customers in the next-gen...

I just wonder how or why would companies come out and say they have made a deal with such and such company and it totally turns out to be false? I mean is there good reason for this? Bad informant or something? I just can't see why a company would do such a thing..sure it may help their PR now but in the long run I would think it would hurt them to pull such a stunt.

Just because you do not own something does not mean you do not have an opinion, and that is what this is for.
